On November 28, 2020 (starting at 14: 00 Almaty), the al-Farabi Center of al-Farabi Kazakh national University with the support of the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan held an online scientific event "Science Talks "Series 5.0 Science as a driver of sustainable socio-economic development"as part of the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Abu Nasr al-Farabi.


It was dedicated to understanding the creative heritage of the great thinker Abu NARS al-Farabi and modern problems of science development. The event was attended by well-known foreign and domestic scientists.


Abu Nasr Muhammad Ibn Muhammad al-Farabi was a philosopher, mathematician, and music theorist, and scientist. One of the representatives of medieval Eastern philosophy. Author of commentaries on the works of Aristotle (hence the honorary nickname "Second teacher") and Plato. His writings influenced Ibn Sina, Ibn Baja, Ibn Tufail, Ibn Rushd, as well as the philosophy and science of medieval Western Europe. He is credited with creating the Otrar library. In 1975, the 1,100-year anniversary of al-Farabi's birth was celebrated on a wide international scale in Moscow, Almaty and Baghdad. He is named after the al-Farabi Treasury, which has the al-Farabi Library and the Shymkent pedagogical Institute of culture named after al-Farabi. Many cities in Kazakhstan have streets named after him. Monuments have been erected in the cities of Almaty, Shymkent and Turkestan. The main belt asteroid 7057 al-Farabi was named in his honor.


Undergraduates and doctoral students of the Department of recreational geography and tourism took part in this event as listeners.
