As a result of a fundamental study, the performers plan to achieve the following results:

- To study the issues of legal regulation of Kazakhstan’s external water sources (Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, bilateral water agreements, creation of a single water commission of the Central Asian region).

- Justify the priorities for ensuring the environmental safety of water bodies in transboundary basins and the basics of interstate use of transboundary rivers on the principles of integrated water resources management;

- To analyze the legal regulation of the distribution of water resources among countries in the Central Asian region.

- To develop proposals for legislation to ensure sustainable water supply in Kazakhstan.
