On February 24, 2023, an "Open Door Day" was held in offline and online format, organized by the teaching staff of the "Biology and Biotechnology" faculty, to provide professional guidance to students. 55 students from 10 schools with their teachers came to the open day, 30 students from 5 schools took part in professional orientation, got acquainted with a lot of information about our university, and expanded their knowledge on the specialties of our faculty. He asked his questions and got answers.

On February 24, 2023 Amalova Akerke defended her thesis PhD-doctoral student of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the specialty "6D060700 - Biology" at the dissertation council of KazNU.

Scientific supervisors:

1. Turuspekov Yerlan Kenesbekovich – Professor, Head of the molecular genetics laboratory of the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (Almaty, Kazakhstan);

On February 17, 2023, a doctoral student of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Sharakhmetov Sayat defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) on the topic: «Fish assemblages and state of fish populations in the Alakol watershed» in the specialty "8D08401 - Fish Industry and Industrial Fishery". The presented defense of the dissertation is the first in our republic in this specialty.

12 members of the dissertation council, 2 official reviewers, the domestic scientific adviser, Associate Professor of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, Candidate of Biological Sciences Mamilov Nadir and foreign scientific adviser, leading researcher of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Institute of Biology of Inland Waters. I.D. Papanin» Levin Boris (Borok, Russia) took part in the defense. The defense was successful, the dissertation council highly appreciated the dissertation work and unanimously decided to award Sharakhmetov Sayat the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

International round table dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor K.A. Saparov On the topic: "Innovative aspects of the development of biological sciences"

On December 1, 2022, a round table "Innovative aspects of the development of Biological Sciences" was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Kuandyk Abenovich Saparov. The round table was attended by: teachers of Al-Farabi KazNU and other universities, research Institute researchers, doctoral students, master students, undergraduate students. There are 46 people in total. The issues of biodiversity conservation and ecology were considered at the conference. Air, soil and water pollution, conservation of plant and animal species are an urgent topic for the present. In this regard, a large-scale conference in the field of bioecology was held. Invited guests: Academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Economics, Professor Alshanov Rahman Alshanovich, President of the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Rector of Turan University, Vincent Chan, Professor of Biomedical Engineering of the Khalifa University of the UAE (Vincent Chan, Khalifa University).

The participants of the round table consider the work of the Round Table fruitful and express confidence that the work started by Saparov K.A. will be continued at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology by his students. The presentation of the book "Gibratty gumyr" dedicated to the life and work of Saparov Kuandyk Abenovich took place during the round table. At the same time, the importance of publishing such a series in the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University from an educational point of view for young people, the continuity of generations was emphasized.

The teacher of zoology and PhD-student of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, and The Junior Researcher at Institute of Zoology, Nazerke Bizhanova, participated in the 4th Executive Model OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation). The Model OIC included the lectures and seminars, international simulation conference and ended with an official Closing Ceremony.

Over 100 young representatives from more than 30 countries participated in the 5-day seminars international simulation conference of the 4th Executive Model OIC under the topic: “The Importance of International Cooperation to achieve Regional Development and Security”. The Ambassadors to Azerbaijan from the OIC member states – Palestine, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Morocco, and Algeria, as well as Mr. Elmaddin Mehdiyev, Director General of the Eurasian Regional Center of ICYF (ICYF-ERC), H.E. Mr. Farhad Hajiyev, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and many other international scholars, participated in the online lectures and the conference of the project and discussed important issues such as national development, international cooperation, sustainable development and ecological issues. During the lectures, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr. Serzhan Abdykarimov, talked about the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence, telling about the endeavours we made throughout the years and how far we have come, making our present day the era of progress and sustainable development for our country.

In connection with the continuation of the quarantine against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources in a remote format held KazNU Alumni Day , dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the day of Independent Kazakhstan

The online event was attended by approximately 30 people, including graduates of the department and faculty of biology and biotechnology.

Dean of the faculty, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Zayadan B.K. personally congratulated all university graduates present at the event. The Dean noted that the professors of the department are the pride of our university and called for continued development of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources.

Event moderator and head of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, Doctor of Biological Sciences Kurmanbayeva M.S. also expressed her congratulations and wished future graduates of the department all the best. Later, participants listened to the university’s anthem and congratulations from the rector of KazNU, Doctor of Philology Sciences, Professor Tuimebayev Zh.K and from the Chairman of the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President of the Alumni Association of KazNU, Doctor of Law, Professor Mami K.A. During the event, participants watched the video “KazNU: University, directed to the future”, dedicated to the achievements of our university and vision of the future.

In the main part, a video was shown with the achievements of the department – Smart Green House, winter garden at the Zholdasbekov Palace of Students, “Aquaponics” (artificial pond on the territory of the university), SRC “Center for the cultivation of ornamental species of fish and plants”, landscape and other works carried out by the department. The video continued with speeches by prominent and promising graduates of the faculty and department. First of all, S. B. Baikoshkarova, a reproductive therapist-embryologist, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Vice-President of the Kazakhstan Association for Reproductive Medicine, Member of the World Association of Reproductive Medicine (WARM), member of the European Association of Human Reproduction and Embryology, Member of the Russian Association of Human Reproduction, spoke Member of the National Commission for Women Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Then the Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan S.R. Temirkhanov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, and General Director of the Institute of Zoology of the Committee of Sciences of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan R.V. Yashchenko, Candidate of Biological Sciences, General Director of the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology M.T.Baimukhanov, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Deputy Director General of the Institute of Zoology M. A. Chirikova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Scientific Secretary of the Institute of Zoology S.K. Khasenova, senior lecturer, doctoral student A. Zh Childibaeva, Candidate of Biological Sciences N.S. Sapargalieva. The video with a speech was completed by a doctoral student of the department B.T. Berdikulov, 2018 to 2019 he studied in a magistracy under the Abay-Vern program at the University of Lorraine (France). He defended his thesis and received a master's degree (M2). Currently studying for PhD.

The final part of the online event was made by graduates of the faculty: S.R. Temirkhanov, S.K. Khasenova, N.S. Sapargalieva, A. Zh. Childibaeva, B. Abyroi, M. Mamyrbai, B. T. Berdikulov. From Germany, regardless of the time difference, undergraduate Turysbek Beksultan spoke.

            The online communication was enthusiastic, and the participating alumni were happy. After the concluding speech and congratulations from the head of the department, Kurmanbaeva MS, the participants of the event listened and watched the “Farewell waltz of KazNU graduates” prepared by the university.
