Abidkulova Karime, the 2nd year PhD student, major in Geobotany-8D05108, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Kazakh National University. al-Farabi, had received the opportunity to spend the fall semester studying at the University of Debrecen (Hungary) under the Erusmus+ program. This program was successfully won in 2023 by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen and the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of KazNU. al-Farabi (head of department, doctor of biological sciences, prof. Kurmanbayeva M.S.). Thanks to this program, doctoral student Abidkulova K.T. undergoes training in the discipline of Plant molecular taxonomy (theoretical and practical course) and the research work in the laboratory of Dr. Gabor Shramko. She has also got the opportunity to take part in a one-day field trip with Professor Attila Molnár and his doctoral students to the Tokaj region (Ciscarpathian) as part of a program to study various species of the family Lycopodiaceae, invasive species, and a hybrid from the genus Galatella.

On September 22, 2023, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology held an international scientific and practical conference within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals "Problems of desertification of the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and issues of their solution" dedicated to the 80^th anniversary of the Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate professor Ametov Abibulla Ametovich. Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Kanseitovich Tuimebayev congratulated on his 80^th anniversary and awarded Ametov A.A. with the silver medal of Al-Farabi. The event was actively attended by speakers from Turkey, Russia and a number of cities of Kazakhstan, in particular from Astana, Aktobe, Aktau, Shymkent and Turkestan. Issues of biodiversity conservation, reduction of natural pastures and desertification of the territory of Kazakhstan were discussed. The General Director of the Main Botanical Garden and the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction G.T.Sitpayeva made a welcoming speech and noted the merits of Abibulla Ametovich in the field of botany, and also the staff of the Institute congratulated Ametov A.A. on the anniversary. Issues of desertification and ways to solve it were proposed, topical issues of increasing the number of geobotanics and preparation of passports of natural pasture lands were discussed. Congratulations were sent by the heads of a number of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The library exhibition of the author was organized at the international conference, the textbook "Plant Systematics" in III volumes was presented. Scientists from different organizations made plenary presentations, young scientists, students and master students reported on their scientific work in sectional parts. Young scientists from Almaty, Astana and Aktau took I, II and III places and were awarded diplomas. Textbooks of Abibulla Ametovich for schoolchildren and textbooks for university students are popular and valuable for all regions of the republic. As a result of the international conference, issues of desertification and ways to solve it were proposed, topical issues of increasing the number of geobotanics and preparing passports of natural pasture lands were discussed.

The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a scientific and practical conference "Modern Achievements in Biomedicine and Ecology" dedicated to the 70^th anniversary of Professor Tamara Shalakhmetova.

A well-known scientist, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Economics Tamara Minazhevna Shalakhmetova, after graduating from the Biological Faculty of S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University, went through a professional and scientific path from senior intern researcher to Dean of the Faculty of Biology and concurrently Director of the Research Institute of Environmental Problems of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Tamara Minazhevna Shalakhmetova is a recognized scientist in the field of cell biology. In 2003 she was elected a member of the Russian International Society for Cell Biology (Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg). She was twice awarded the state scholarship for outstanding achievements in science.

At the event a congratulatory letter from the Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev was read out with a high assessment of Tamara Shalakhmetova's merits and wishes of success in scientific and pedagogical activities.

On April 6, 2023, the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a round table "Modern achievements in biodiversity conservation and rational use of Plants" dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the International Academy of Environmental Restoration, Professor Isa Omarovich Baytulin. The opening ceremony of the I.O. Baitulin auditorium, equipped with modern equipment, was also held. The round table was attended by Isa Omarovich's children and grandchildren, a team led by the General Director of the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, Doctor of Biological Science, Professor Sitpayeva Gulnara Tokbergenova, Vice-President of Astana International University, Doctor of Biological Science, Professor Myrzagaliyeva Anar Bazarovna, Director of the Altai Botanical Garden PhD Sumbembayev Aidar Aitkazyevich, the staff of the Faculty of Biotechnology and the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources.

The celebration of Nauryz, the great day of the nation, was held within the framework of the festive program "New Kazakhstan: values that unite the nation". This holiday was attended by well-known state and public figures, scientists, veterans of the faculty, teachers and students of kaznu. In 2023, the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a new format for Nauryz, the great day of the nation. As for the features: this year, the guests not only celebrated a Nauryz, fed their bellies, but also organized national games and exhibitions, which were held one by one, glorifying different values. Within the same Exhibitions, The Faculty of Biology and biotechnology also presented a small exhibition. Colorful room flowers were placed in front of the biologists ' yurt, and on the other side were stuffed animals brought from the Museum of Biology, the pride of the Faculty of Biology, an eagle and an eagle. Our small exhibition pleased the guests. Talented students of our faculty played National Instruments and sang songs. Our students from near and far abroad, such as Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, showed their skills and took turns dancing. Happy Kazakh nation nauryz holiday. Let our country be safe and peaceful.
