The session of the round table was opened by the acting First Vice-Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU, Doctor of Medical Sciences Kanatbek Mukanov. Welcoming the participants of the round table, the first vice-rector introduced the distinguished guest. During the forum, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bolatkhan Zayadan spoke about the educational and scientific activities of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, which he heads.
During the meeting, Bazbek Davletov spoke in detail about his research work. According to the scientist, the problem of chronic pain pushed him to work on the creation of a new drug. To reduce pain, people use morphine and other pain relievers that were used 200 years ago. Although these substances are natural sources, their effects on the body are short-lived. “This does not solve the problem of chronic pain, and they are toxic to the body. Today, this problem has affected not only the United States, Europe, but also Asia. We did a lot of research and created botulinum toxins, changed their molecular structure, and when applied to mice, the drug began to relieve pain for up to 23 days. " According to the scientist, botulinum nerve toxins by themselves do not harm the body, they are used in cosmetology, for migraines, strabismus and other diseases. The drugs are designed for a short period of time.
Thus, the scientist intends to create a drug where the molecules would affect only the nerve endings. This would address the issue of helping people suffering from chronic pain and the negative effects of chronic opioid use.
During the round table, the participants asked questions about the projects and research activities of the scientist, discussed plans for joint work on projects in the field of neuroscience and neurobiology.
