The 1150th anniversary of the birth of the great thinker, the outstanding scientist of the East, Abu Nasir al-Farabi.

Graduation Day of the Kazakh National University is an academic tradition. On May 30, 2020, the Department of Press and Electronic Media of the Faculty of Journalism continued this indestructible tradition in an online format.

The meeting at the Department of Press and Electronic Media of the Faculty of Journalism was opened by the head of the department, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Gulmira Sultanbaeva, who congratulated the graduates of the department. The participants of the event were welcomed by the rector of Al-Farabi KazNU academician Galymkair Mutanovich Mutanov, and the special video greetings were presented. The saying of Al-Farabi “People can only be happy together and helping each other” has a deep idea. The rector encouraged graduates to contribute to the development of the university and society, supporting each other in the framework of this idea. An example of such work is that in recent years, with the support of graduates at the department, new media educational and creative laboratories have been opened with the assistance of the television channel Kazakhstan, Egemen Kazakhstan, and Kenzhalin Press. These facilities have become a platform for educational and technical opportunities with the support of partner employers.

During the meeting, the project “Mentoring: opportunities for all” was presented, which was voiced by the Chairman of the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President of the Alumni Association of KazNU, Doctor of Law, Professor Kairat Abdrazakovich Mami.

As part of the event, large-scale projects implemented by graduates were voiced, from modernizing the educational and technical base to the educational process, adapting educational programs to the media market. The opening of branches of the Press and Electronic Mass Media Department on the basis of the Almaty branch of the Egemen Kazakstan newspaper, the Almaty edition of the Kazakhstan national channel and Kazakh Gazetteri LLP allowed the educational process to adapt to media production.

Advisor to the Chairman of the Supreme Court Nurlan Kalka, who supported the initiative of a graduate of the department to become a mentor to a student of KazNU, said: “Kairat Abdrazakuly is deeply interested in the proposed project. Here are three specific steps our partner takes in this direction. Firstly, this year we will promote the initiative to become a mentor in the field of legal journalism. Our second initiative is to prepare a press service in the judiciary. We will help students do internships at the court press service. We organize internships for high school students in district and regional courts. Thirdly, we regularly conduct online master classes for students with legal skills”. He also paid the special attention to issue of specialization in journalism. Recall, for example, the skill of Nuri Muftah, who wrote in detail about the judiciary, spoke about the justice of the rule of law, which is known to everyone and is the main principle of journalism. Alexander Tasbolat is a well-known journalist who studies law in detail and specializes in one area. He not only wrote articles and interpreted legal terminology, but also explained them to people and became a link between the state and society.

Gulmira Serikbaevna noted that in the curriculum the legal basis of journalism is taught as the main subject, an in-depth training program is being developed in the field. The need to publish the Journal of Legal Journalism, which was discussed with the press service of the Supreme Court, requires the publication’s management to use the terms that journalists in the field of law, law and ethics encounter in the media. The opening of a student media clinic at the faculty based on proposals from governmental and non-governmental organizations in the field of legal media will increase the impact on the training of industry experts.

           It should be said that the event was attended by representatives of several generations of the department who watched a video about the Association of Faculty Alumni. Contribution of graduates to the training of specialists was in accordance with the requirements of the digital media market.

In particular, the event was attended by Southbek Abdrakhmanov, well-known journalist and public figure - Armanzhan Baitasov, group media manager, graduates Meirzhan Auelbekovich, Miras Mukash, candidates of sciences Zhumagali Esenbek and Alma Saylauovna, Manshuk Shymyrbai, editor-in-chief of the department of information programs of Kazakhstan Nazym Dutbaeva, a journalist, a teacher at Zhetysu University, Gulbagysh Bostan, a leading Kazakh radio will mentor faculty students and will help teach journalistic skills. On the eve of the 25th anniversary of Khabar JSC, the 100th anniversary of Kazakh Radio LLP, the 100th anniversary of KazInform International News Agency JSC in the upcoming academic year, the department will discuss a plan of large-scale events with partner organizations. We can say with confidence that graduates are the intellectual basis of academic development.
