About the institute:

 

   The Confucius Institute at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was the first Chinese language center , established in November 2002 by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Lanzhou University(China).

   On December 17, 2007, during the Forum of Directors of the World Confucius Institute in Beijing (China), an agreement was signed between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the International Chinese Language Staff to reopen the Chinese Language Center as the Confucius Institute.

On February 23, 2009, it was officially opened as the Confucius Institute.

   The institute has language classrooms, video and audio systems, a DVD player and a video projection TV. A single satellite antenna has been installed allowing direct messages from China.

 The institute has a large library of 10,000 textbooks and manuals in Chinese, various directories and books.

 

 

 

 

 

THE MISSION OF THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUE: The mission of the Confucius Institute is to meet the needs of Kazakhs in all aspects by teaching Chinese; to train competitive experts who meet modern requirements. Provide high-level help through Chinese professionals, and provide opportunities for people who are interested in learning Chinese language, literature, culture, and dealing with China; improve the level of Chinese teaching in Kazakhstan.

 

 

 

 

DUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL WORK

The educational work of the institute is carried out in accordance with thematic plans and courses approved by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Lanzhou University, the Institute offers various levels of curriculum for Chinese language applicants:

  • Chinese language for teenagers;
  • Basic, intermediate and advanced Chinese (according to HSK requirements);
  • Business Chinese language;
  • Chinese language in the context of Chinese culture
  • Teachers: professors and associate professors of Lanzhou University.
  • Classes are held in Kazakh, Russian, English and Chinese.

 

The institute provides students with different levels of language learning- basis, intermediate, and advanced. The duration of each level is 3-4 months. Beginner students learn 750-850 Chinese characters, and intermediate students learn 900-1100 Chinese characters. As part of a continuous level course, up to 3,500 Chinese characters will be learned. Grammar and vocabulary tests are conducted at each level..

The best students of our institute can participate various social and cultural events and competitions in Chinese language and also can study at Lanzhou University for one year in language courses, or enroll in bachelor's and master's degrees with a scholarship. Currently, the Confucius Institute at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University conducts HSK exams twice a year.

Graduates will receive a special certificate from China for completing a certain level. Classes are held in three periods, at five levels: basic group (96 hours), intermediate groups (A, B, C, each - 72 hours), advanced group (72 hours). Total - 312 hours..

 

 

 

 

CULTURAL EVENTS:

Every year the Confucius Institute organizes the "Chinese Bridge" competition for students from all over the world.

 

 

 

 

Confucius Institute has opened master classes of calligraphy and Tai Chi.

INSTITUTE PROGRAMS:

Confucius Institute and Lanzhou University jointly organize a summer school of learning and exchange of experience during the annual summer vacation.

In order to appraise students' Chinese proficiency, the institute organizes various competitions and Olympic competitions as well as various cultural activities..

Continuing education courses for Chinese teachers are held annually.
