On March 1, 2023, an open event of the English Club for International Women's Day was held (organizers: Lovinskaya A.V., Zhusupova A.I., Serbaeva A.D.). As part of the event "The First Day of Women's History", an online meeting was held with a journalist, human rights activist, project manager of the PF "Erkindik Kanaty" Dana Buralkiyeva. During the meeting, issues such as the main milestones of women's empowerment, factors contributing to the growth of women's influence in education and society were touched upon.

First-year doctoral students of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, as well as Biophysics and Biomedicines, held an educational event on the Microsoft Teams platform in honor of the 178 th anniversary of the Kazakh poet, thinker, composer, enlightener, public figure and founder of Kazakh written literature Abay Kunanbayev.           The choice of the theme of the educational event is determined by the need to familiarize students with the life and all facets of the work of the Kazakh poet, philosopher, composer, enlightener, thinker, public figure, founder of Kazakh written literature and its first classic, a reformer of culture in the spirit of rapprochement with Russian and European culture on the basis of enlightened liberal Islam Abay Kunanbayev. The event was attended by over 50 students and teachers. In addition to doctoral students, 1-2 year students also took an active part. A film and a presentation about Abai were shown at the event, songs were performed, words of edification were read in Kazakh and English, a quiz was held on knowledge of the biography and work of the great poet of the Kazakh steppe, where students who correctly answered the audience were awarded a small prize.

On February 24, 2023, an "Open Door Day" was held in offline and online format, organized by the teaching staff of the "Biology and Biotechnology" faculty, to provide professional guidance to students. 55 students from 10 schools with their teachers came to the open day, 30 students from 5 schools took part in professional orientation, got acquainted with a lot of information about our university, and expanded their knowledge on the specialties of our faculty. He asked his questions and got answers.

23.02.2023 у. Teachers and students of the biotechnology department visited the Kazakh State Academic Drama Theater named after Mukhtar Auezov and watched the drama "Moon and Aisha". 

The performance based on the works of the writer Sherkhan Murtaza "Moon and Aisha" and "Front Without Weapons", written by playwright Yerkin Zhuasbek, was staged on the stage of the Kazakh State Academic Theater named after M. Auezov on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

         All the hardships of the merciless war were endured by the people who lived in the villages, who were in the rear - among them was the family of Murtaza, who became an "enemy of the people", who died in exile, who left behind his three children in Aisha's trust. In this destructive war, enduring hunger, hopelessness, together with the villagers, Aisha is fighting with all her might to save the life of her family. The performance describes not only the fate of one Aisha, it is a collective image of the whole people. The unfading spirit of the people, the desire for victory, in spite of everything, is a life-affirming goal. The performance is a worship to all Mothers and children, wise elders and respectable women, for their valiant, selfless work, not sparing themselves, who worked in the rear in the name of victory, for life, for the continuation of the family.

On February 24, 2023 Amalova Akerke defended her thesis PhD-doctoral student of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the specialty "6D060700 - Biology" at the dissertation council of KazNU.

Scientific supervisors:

1. Turuspekov Yerlan Kenesbekovich – Professor, Head of the molecular genetics laboratory of the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (Almaty, Kazakhstan);

2. Simon Griffiths – PhD, Project leader of Crop Genetics Department, John Innes Centre (Norwich, United Kingdom).

The thesis was performed at a high level using modern methodologies. The dissertation council voted unanimously to award the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). On February 17, 2023, a seminar was held at the secondary school named after I. Altynsarin for teachers of biology and chemistry of district schools’, organized by the Department of Education of the Tyulkubas district of the Turkestan region. Yergazy Amangeldyev, the chief methodologist of the district department of education and Adil Yerezhepov, a well-known scientist-teacher of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University attended at seminar. Within the framework of the seminar, open classes were held on these subjects and their results were discussed. During the work, at the request of the teachers, Adil Yerezhepov gave a lecture on the topic “Breathing. Mechanisms of energy generation in the cell”. Students of 10th and 11th grade conducted several experiments in chemistry and biology and showed interest in science. The experiments were carried out at a high level, and the participants of the seminar were very satisfied.

An exhibition of scientific works by Adil Yerezhepov was organized at the school, and the author presented his works to students and teachers. He handed over several books to the school library. At the same time, the seminar participants shared their thoughts on the current state of the education sector, the quality and equipment of practical classes in biology and chemistry in schools. The chief methodologist of the district department of education noted the results and significance of this seminar in improving the qualifications of teachers.

On February 16, 2023, in the Abay village, Tyulkubas district, Turkestan region, Adil Yerezhepov, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a meeting with students of the secondary school named after I.Altynsarin. Adil Yerezhepov is graduated from this school.  By the request of students, Adil Yerezhepov gave a lecture on the topic "Proteins, chemical composition and structure", supplementing the information of a school biology textbook.

During meeting students asked for additional information about departments and specialties at KazNU. In this regard, students were provided with detailed information about the university, booklets of the university and a video of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology.

After the meeting, the school administration thanked Adil Yerezhepov and solemnly awarded him a letter of appreciation on behalf of the school staff. 

The faculty of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the Kazakh National University congratulates Maira Kabdraushovna Murzakhmetova on her 75th anniversary.

Maira Kabdraushovna graduated with honors from the Faculty of Biology of the Kazakh State University. she began his career as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Normal Physiology of the Moscow State University, worked for many years at the Institute of Genetics and Physiology from senior laboratory assistant to head of the laboratory. She is a leading specialist in the field of physiology and biochemistry of membranes. Since 2015, she has been working as a professor at the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Maira Kabdraushkovna has shown herself to be a highly competent and demanding scientist, equally well versed in complex modern biochemical and physiological research methods. Scientific research conducted by her organization is unique: they are designed to determine the mechanisms of structural and functional changes in cell membranes under the influence of stress factors on the body. So, under the leadership of M. K. Murzakhmetova, research is being carried out on the examination of natural biologically active compounds isolated from local plant materials. As a result of screening studies, plant compositions with hepatoprotective properties have been developed, and the search in this direction continues.

On February 17, 2023, a doctoral student of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Sharakhmetov Sayat defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) on the topic: «Fish assemblages and state of fish populations in the Alakol watershed» in the specialty "8D08401 - Fish Industry and Industrial Fishery". The presented defense of the dissertation is the first in our republic in this specialty.

12 members of the dissertation council, 2 official reviewers, the domestic scientific adviser, Associate Professor of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, Candidate of Biological Sciences Mamilov Nadir and foreign scientific adviser, leading researcher of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Institute of Biology of Inland Waters. I.D. Papanin» Levin Boris (Borok, Russia) took part in the defense. The defense was successful, the dissertation council highly appreciated the dissertation work and unanimously decided to award Sharakhmetov Sayat the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
