In Kazakhstan, on may 9, one of the main public holidays is the Victory Day in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. The great Patriotic war began with the beginning of the attack on the USSR on June 22, 1941, when the German fascists terminated the agreement with the Soviet-German Treaty, agreed in 1939. More than 1.2 million troops, 12 rifle divisions, four cavalry divisions, seven rifle brigades, and about 50 separate regiments and battalions were purchased from the Kazakh SSR to the front. For military exploits in the great Patriotic war was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, Halyk Kaharmany-499 Kazakhstani people, 99 of them-were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, Khalyk Kakharmany. In addition, two women – Manshuk Mametova and Aliya Moldagulova received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. 110 Kazakhstanis were awarded the order "Dank" of three degrees.

From April 11 to May 2, 2023, Dr. Gabor Shramko, head of the research group for the study of plant phylogeny at the Department of Botany of the University of Debrecen, visited the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of KazNU al-Farabi. The visit took place within the framework of the international Erasmus + program between the University of Debrecen (Debrecen, Hungary) and al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). During his visit, Dr. Gabor Shramko delivered lectures and workshops on the topic "Introduction to reduced representation genomic library approaches; the restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (RAD-SEG) and its application" to bachelors, masters, and doctoral students in biological specialties.

Dr. Gabor Schramko, as foreign scientific supervisor for some of the doctoral students in Geobotany, also made field trips with them to collect material in the Almaty and Turkestan regions.

On April 22, 2023, on the International Mother Earth Day, the administration, staff, teachers, and students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in a citywide subbotnik day.
