The case of Samim Faramarz at the UNESCO Observatory for the Safety of Journalists

At the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, was held an event “Journalism in Afghanistan”  dedicated to the graduate student of the faculty of pre-university training (2011), the faculty of journalism (2015) Said Samim Faramarz.

Said Samim Faramarz was a student of Al-Farabi KazNU in 2011-2015 years. An activist of the UN model program “New Silk Road”, a talented journalist and correspondent of TOLOnews (TBC), died on September 5, 2018 in Kabul with his colleague Razim Ahmadi during the explosion. This day will inspire young people to engage in journalism for their country and strengthen international cooperation between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.

Afghan Youth Day was organized by the UN Information Office in Kazakhstan, the Almaty office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Almaty and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The guests, having familiarized themselves with the photo exhibition "Journalism in Afghanistan", showed particular interest in the topic. The film “Said Samim” was shown, which was shot according to the script of PhD doctoral student N. Rushanova.

UNESCO studies were presenter on killed journalists in the service , and S. Karpov made a report at the UNESCO Observatory in the case of Samim Said.

IRA Consul General in the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Osman Sheriazz noted the mission of the embassy for the safety of journalists. A film was prepared by the University Berasha, IRA Trade Attaché in Kazakhstan, Ahmed Zia.

The event was attended by the university administration, the UN Information Bureau, the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the diplomatic missions of Afghanistan and the Afghan youth studying in Almaty. AFG-KAZ Kazakhstan - Chairman of the Afghan Association for Development and Partnership Bitimov Omirtay proposed to award Said Samim the award “For Courage in Journalism”.

The main coordination body for the preparation and implementation of the Regulation on the Faculty of Journalism. Also, the proposal to open an Afghan Center for Journalism at Al-Farabi KazNU is supported by the General Secretariat of the IRA in Kazakhstan.
