Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) is the leading institution providing graduate education in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

KazNU was among the first universities of the Central Asia that joined to the Magna Charta Universitatum and adopted the modern “bachelor-master-doctorate” system of professional education. Today 13 departments of the University offer master’s and doctoral programs in more than 120 subject areas.

KazNU launched its master’s programs in 1996, and since that time approximately 7 thousand master students have been graduated from the University.

KazNU offers master’s programs of two types: research-oriented and professional. All programs are intended to provide in-depth specialized training which gives good start to successful scientific, pedagogical, managerial and expert careers of graduates.

Маster’s programs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University require intense research/field work and engagement into large research projects of the University.

Master’s programs provided by the University are implemented in close collaboration with leading international educational and research institutions. Every year invited foreign guest professors deliver lectures for KazNU master students. Thanks to extensive international links of the University our master students have opportunities for training and internship in many universities and research centers abroad.

Master’s programs of KazNU in 5 subject areas have been accredited by the international accreditation agency “ASIIN” (Germany). There are programs that are delivered entirely in English. Since the academic year 2010-2011 master students of KazNU have had the possibility to enroll into double degree programs of the CIS Network University.

Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi first in the country started its master educational programs and since 1996 has been a leading Republican center for training of masters. Now the university is preparing for 80 research and teaching specialties (duration of 2 years) and profile (duration of 1-1.5 years) directions.

Master students are also carried out on the educational programs of MBA (Management, Finance, Economics) and double degree education programs (Russian Peoples’ Friendship University, Moscow State Institute, University of Nancy INPL, University of Dubna, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Novosibirsk State University, University of Lyon-1, Valencia Polytechnic University , Yonsei University and etc.).

Admission to the master degree of KazNU named Al-Farabi is implemented (made) according to the Model Regulations on admission to educational organizations that implement professional training programs of postgraduate education, approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 19, 2012 № 109.

Requirements for applicants for admission to Master degree students

High degree (bachelor or specialty)

Having earned the prerequisites, required courses

A high grade point average the previous level of education

Applicants for admission to the PhD course pass the two entrance exams – one is foreign language and the second is specialty.

The entrance exam for foreign language (English, French and German) delivered in the form of testing technologies for the National Center for State Education Standards and Testing, Ministry of Education and Science.

Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan who has a certificate confirming the test in a foreign language (English, French and German) Test of English as a Foreign Language, Test of English as a Foreign Language Institutional Testing Programm (TOEFL ITP), (TOEFL - not less than 560), International English Language Tests System (IELTS - not less than 6.0), Grundbaustein DaF (the score should be not less than C1), Deutsche Sprachprfung fur den Hochschulzugang (DSH, the score should be not less than C1), Diplome d’Etudes en Langue français (DELF, , the score should be not less than A2), Diplome Approfondi de Langue français (DALF, , the score should be not less than C1), the test de connaisances de français (TCF, , the score should be not less than 400) are exempted from entrance examination for foreign language.

Reception persons’ documents wishing to enroll in Master degree, carried out during the period from July 10 to July 30, at prospect Al-Farabi, 71, to admission of KazNU, daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
