At the Faculty of Medicine and Health of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the support of the Foundation of the First President - Elbasy, the first discussion club “Voice of the Young” was held in the framework of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Issues of Medicine and Public Health: Youth Health - Health of the Nation” dedicated to the 85th anniversary of al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Year of Youth in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Keeping the discussion very interesting, allows you to learn different points of view and keep the brain in good shape. But, at times, the discussions in which we enter, turn into unproductive conversations, disputes or conflicts. To prevent this from happening, the moderator A.E.Oshibayeva, Director of the Higher School of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Health of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the format and rules for discussion were defined.

The first meeting of the discussion club was devoted to the globalization of science. Welcoming speech was made by S.Zhaparov - Deputy Chairman of the Science Council of the Foundation of the First President - Elbasy RK, which is the largest non-profit foundation in the country. Sukhrab Abaidullayevich spoke about the opportunities for young scientists of Kazakhstan, programs, projects and activities implemented by the Foundation, congratulated all those present on the opening of a new platform for discussions and discussions on the science and development of young scientists.

A guest speaker, professor at McGill University (Canada) N.B. Dauletbayev presented his view on the topic under discussion, where he reflected the advantages and prospects of globalization of science, including the globalization of science as an opportunity for the rapid development of industrial and scientific potential, a global “review” of national works foreign colleagues, global cooperation on large-scale and resource-intensive projects, global scientific and professional communities as a "mouthpiece" of scientists.

Kenenov B.N. - Corresponding Member of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences, Director of the Center for Physical and Chemical Research and Analysis Methods of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University and D.V.Vinnikov - Research Laboratory of Health and Environment Faculty of Medicine and Health KazNU them. Al-Farabi, national delegate from Kazakhstan to the ERS were invited as speakers-opponents. The attitude to globalization among all specialists is ambiguous. Of course, globalization can be both positive and negative, but there is no alternative to it. Kenesov B.N. the opportunities and problems of the development of Kazakhstan science were announced using leading international journals, among which were low returns from scientific research and a weak groundwork for commercialization, a large number of articles in dubious journals and dissertations of questionable quality. The professor suggested thinking about the possibility of establishing minimum threshold indicators for researchers, reviewing dissertations by foreign scientists, quotas for grants at the local level, the work of ethical councils that are actually working and strong scientists in national scientific councils. The next speaker-opponent is Vinnikov D.V. made an analysis of the problematic issues of science in the field of public health, among which in the first place were insufficient funding, noted that the majority of them were tempered, markedly limited resources, low motivation of staff, poor quality of work, weight of indirect costs. Possible solutions to these problems were proposed.

Own vision was presented by doctoral students and undergraduates of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, whose opinions were opposed to each other. Young scientists raised exciting questions from the loss of national identity to the inaccessibility of grant projects for young scientists.

The discussion was hot, the participants in the discussion club asked the most unexpected questions to the speakers and thought about questions that they might not have thought of yet, got a fresh look at the problem. Conducting a discussion club contributes to the development of the ability of the younger generation to publicly reflect their own opinions and attitudes on various topical issues and events, the formation of skills to constructively defend their position, the cultivation of positive values and worldview. The Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University is planning to hold regular quarterly meetings of the debating club, to which it invites everyone, lovers of intellectual leisure!

The meeting of the scientific club"Journal Club"

On March 30, 2019 (Saturday), the ninth meeting of the scientific club “Journal Club” took place at the Faculty of Medicine and Health of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where participants conducted a critical analysis of the scientific publication about the effect of nasogastric probe on swallowing in stroke patients. Acute cerebrovascular accident (stroke) is the most severe vascular disease, after which swallowing disorders (dysphagia) occur in 25 to 32% of cases. Thus, dysphagia is one of the frequent post-stroke disorders. The Journal Club touched upon not only the results of the study presented in the article, but also questions about the analysis of a scientific publication based on identifying the authors' position and the rationale of its facts. Young scientists, reading an article from a peer-reviewed scientific journal, experience difficulties and end up with a desperate desire to change their field of activity to one where there are no scientific articles at all, or they are written differently. In fact, the problem is not in the publications themselves, but in the way we choose and understand them. That is why we need the meetings of the Journal Club, where we acquire the skill of reading scientific publications!

Publication of the staff of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Health of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in a scientific journal

Training in the gymnasiums is a fairly common form of leisure for adults, given the positive effects of regular exercise on the cardiovascular system, mood, and possibly self-confidence. However, little is known about the adverse effects of visiting the gym with the corresponding effects. People attending the gym may be exposed to various chemicals, including metal rods and bars. They are usually made of stainless steel, and the chemical composition of the latter may vary; however, selected metals in steel, such as nickel, may be associated with adverse health effects, since Nickel is a known carcinogen. The scientific journal «F1000 Research» published an article by employees of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine on the results of an experimental study of nickel exposure, measured by the nickel concentration in the hair of those who were in contact with metal equipment in the gym. The article can be found at the link: https://f1000research.com/articles/8-68/v1

360 million people in the world suffer from disabling hearing loss, of which 32 million children. First of all, hearing loss affects a person’s ability to communicate with other people. In children with an unresolved hearing loss problem, there is often a delay in the development of conversational speech. Thanks to transformations in various areas of life activity, a unique opportunity has appeared for patients, in addition to hearing aids, to install a cochlear implant. And it allows patients with hearing loss to fully develop and actively participate in society, allows the child to hear the world. In Kazakhstan, the program of cochlear implantation has been implemented since 2007. Cochlear implantation affects not only the ability to hear, understand and reproduce speech, but also affects the social aspects of people's lives, such as self-esteem, emotional and social functioning, and others.

At the meeting of the Journal Club we with the doctoral student of the scientific and pedagogical direction of the 1st course Zhumabayev Ruslan will consider a scientific publication on the results of analyzing the quality of life of children and their families after installing cochlear implants and evaluating possible correlations between factors of quality of life and communication after the installation of cochlear implants. A critical analysis of the article will be conducted, based on identifying the position of the author and arguing its facts, a thorough analysis of the key methodological features of this work.

To participate in the Journal Club are invited students, undergraduates, doctoral students and teachers. We invite everyone to participate! We will be glad to see you.

The main condition - the article must be pre-read by all participants in the meeting. Participation of teachers in winter trainings of curators-advisers school

Possession of certain knowledge and skills, the desire for self-education, the responsibility and diligence of the student are able to provide them with successful professional development in the future. In this regard, the role of higher educational institutions in educating the student as a future specialist is increasing. For this, the administration of universities is doing a lot to organize the educational activities of students. Each teacher belongs to the post of curator with special responsibility. Curators become second parents, empathize with each of their wards, and strive to increase his academic performance in every way. The curator should be for students a friend, an assistant and a subtle psychologist who will always understand the problem and give practical advice. Teachers of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Public Health of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in winter trainings of curators-advisers school, which were held at the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where they discussed issues of stress development of students by creative methods.

10.01.2019 г.

Teacherof the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University GD Kuziyeva passed the author's course “Applied Psychology of Health” by professors A. Garber and K. Rechke from Germany, where issues of human behavior in stress — theory, diagnostics, stress management strategies, etc. — were covered. The burden of chronic non-communicable diseases is increasing throughout the world, although many of them could have been prevented. Health psychology makes an enormous contribution to the primary prevention of diseases, helping to reduce the risk factors for diseases in populations, detecting specific types of behavior and directing them to change. Health psychology is a young and actively developing branch of psychology that relates to patients with various diseases and promotes healthy behavior in the practice of a doctor.

On December 8, 2018, a meeting of the Journal Club was held at the Faculty of Medicine and Health of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where a critical analysis of the scientific publication “Findings in diagnostic laparoscopy in patients with unexplained infertility” was conducted. The focus of the members of the Journal Club was on aspects of the evidence base of publication. A significant part of scientific articles presenting the results of a study often contains information that is unsuitable for use. A full-fledged publication should include a detailed description of the most important positions that confirm the reliability of the results obtained and the conclusions reached. In the presented publication, the study was aimed at solving an appropriate, clearly formulated question, the goal of the study was achieved, the results were clearly defined, however, some parameters of the characteristics of the study participants were missing, statistical confirmation of the data obtained, and data on the effectiveness of treatment tactics after hysterolaparoscopy in patients that makes the study unfinished.

We thank all the participants of the meeting of the Journal Club (students, undergraduates, doctoral students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, representatives of other faculties) and experts d.m.s. Zh.A. Kalmataeva, Ph.D. AE Yerahaeva, PhD D.V. Vinnikov, PhD A.M. Raushanova for active participation in the work of the Journal Club and constructive dialogue!

Dear Colleagues!

On December 8, 2018 (Saturday), at 14.00 in the meeting room on the 1- st floor of the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, a meeting of the scientific club "Journal Club" will be held.

Currently, experts in all areas are experiencing information overload. The number of new medical research articles published annually is progressively increasing. The only way to manage this information overload is to acquire effective literature analysis skills that will allow you to focus on high-quality research and not be distracted by sources of literature with a low level of evidence.

During the meeting of the Journal Club, with the undergraduate of the scientific and pedagogical direction of the 2-nd year Aidasheva Dinara, we will conduct an objective assessment of the scientific publication, based on identifying the position of the author of the article and arguing its facts, carefully analyzing the key methodological features of this work.

The participants of the journal club, in addition to obtaining practical skills of the critical analysis of a scientific article, will consider the possibilities of medicine in diagnosing one of the pressing growing problems of our society, infertility. Worldwide, the number of infertile couples increases annually. In Kazakhstan, this figure is about 15 percent, which, according to the World Health Organization, is a government problem, affecting demographic indicators. In this case, experts find it difficult to clearly identify the cause of infertility.

To participate in the Journal Club are invited students, undergraduates, doctoral students and teachers of universities and universities, research fellows of research institutes. We invite everyone to participate! We will be glad to see you.

The main condition - the article must be pre-read by all participants in the meeting. The text of the article can be found at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3936265/ or on the website of the Faculty of Medicine and Health of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the Science tab - Council of Young Scientists http: // www.kaznu.kz/ru/19181/news).

On November 24, 2018, at the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, the long-awaited meeting of the scientific club “Journal Club” took place.

Analysis of scientific articles is the most important part of the work of scientists. Reading the articles of other authors, you can find new topics or be inspired by ideas for writing your own article. During the meeting of the Journal Club there were interesting discussions. After presenting the main results of a systematic review of the effectiveness of social networks to change behavioral factors affecting people's health, the speaker (undergraduate of the scientific and pedagogical direction of the 2nd course Esimbekova G.), among those present, who also had students from other universities, discussed and disadvantages of both the publication itself, the study, and the effectiveness of the influence of social networks as a method of mass change in the behavior of people. Our traditional experts are Associate Professor of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Head of the Health and Environmental Research Laboratory, Ph.D. Vinnikov D.V. and Director of the KSPH Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, Ph.D. Oshibayeva A.E. helped participants fully understand the interpretation of the results of a systematic review. The presented systematic review was conducted in eight databases and covered scientific publications from 2000 to 2012. According to the results of the discussion of the study, the participants came to the conclusion that today, in the era of the development of computer technology, when there is a possibility of mass influence on the younger generation through popular social networks, traditional methods of informing are mainly used. The use of online interventions has both advantages and disadvantages. We thank all the guests who came to actively participate in the " Journal Club "!

March 1 - World Immunity Day

Annually, since 2002, on the initiative of the World Health Organization, the World Day of Immunity is celebrated on March 1, the goal is to attract public attention to the problems associated with the spread of various immune diseases, as well as the preservation and strengthening of immunity in general.

The ancient Romans and Greeks believed that a person with good immunity is "free" from illness. After all, even during the terrible epidemics of plague and smallpox, not all fell ill. The immune system, like everything in man, is complex and multifaceted. The strength of immunity, like our overall health, is about 50% dependent on the lifestyle we choose. Among the main destroyers of immunity specialists call frequent stresses, improper diet, constant lack of sleep, long exposure to the sun, too much physical activity and, conversely, a sedentary lifestyle. And, of course, bad habits - smoking, alcohol, drugs.

Immunity depends on the work of the intestine: 80% of the "cells" of the immune system is located in it. And that means everything that we eat or weakens, or strengthens our invisible defenders. Vegetables and fruits - vegetable food - should constitute 50% of the diet.

Sour-milk products containing bifido- and lactobacilli fight with harmful microorganisms for a place in our intestines and create the main protective barrier against pathogens.

Only 10% of people can boast of powerful immunity, which protects them from almost all diseases. Another 10% have congenital immunodeficiency: they get sick very often. The remaining 80%, the strength of the immune system depends on the conditions and lifestyle.

The rules are simple:

  • ·         Fresh air - every day;
  • ·         Balanced diet;
  • ·         To bad habits - no !
  • ·         Moderate physical exercises to tighten the muscles, help to "lose" excess weight, will make sleep more strong;

Psychologist Anastasia Belskaya (St. Petersburg) was invited to the seminar. Among the participants of the workshop were parents of children suffering from type 1 diabetes from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (American Academy of Pediatrics) states that: “Although diabetes is incurable, children with this diagnosis can have a normal childhood and adolescence if their disease is under control. It is extremely important to control the course of diabetes to avoid complications. ”

Disease management consists of the routine monitoring of blood sugar levels, insulin therapy (using multiple tests and injections conducted throughout the day) and strict adherence to the principles of healthy eating. Continued maintenance of blood sugar within the normal range can reduce the likelihood of high (hyperglycemia) or low (hypoglycemia) symptoms of blood sugar and long-term health problems associated with inadequate diabetes control.
In addition to a healthy diet, a diabetic child should, for at least thirty minutes a day, do some physical exercise and be able to respond correctly to signals from his body, telling his parents about his condition in time or by giving himself an injection.

No. 2 meeting of the journal club is scheduled for March 17, 2018.
Analysis of scientific articles is the most important part of the work of scientists. Reading the articles of other authors, you can find new topics or be inspired by ideas. As the saying goes, creativity is two alien thoughts that a third person has managed to correctly formulate.

As our career progresses and gaining experience in this field, we learn to evaluate the text of other authors, to find errors in them. Evaluating an article by another author makes it possible to avoid your own mistakes in the future. Therefore, such meetings are simply necessary for us as air!
The Journal Club is open for visiting by students, undergraduates, doctoral students and teachers of the departments of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, as well as other universities and universities, research workers of the scientific research institute. We invite everyone to participate! We will be glad to see you.
