Chair history

The Department of epidemiology, biostatistics and evidence-based medicine was founded in December 2015 by the decision of the Academic Council of the al-Farabi Kazakh national University.

The main activities of the Department are educational, research, consulting and expert in the field of biostatistics and statistical data processing of scientific research, health information systems, evidence-based medicine, methodology of systematic reviews, protocols and recommendations, evaluation of health technologies, research methodology, research management, methods of management decision - making in health care, methods of teaching in adult education.

The mission of the Department is to develop human resources-competitive and in-demand specialists in the national and international labor markets, with a high level of professional culture, having an active civil position, being able to formulate and solve modern scientific and practical problems and able to successfully conduct research and management activities.

 The purpose of the Department is to prepare bachelors, masters and PhD students in the field of public health in accordance with high academic standards; to provide students with fundamental knowledge at the interface between different Sciences, ensuring their professional mobility in the real developing world; to develop skills for organizing and conducting research in doctoral studies.

The founder and first head of the Department RESNIK VITALY LAZAREVICH, doctor of medical Sciences, Professor, scientist of international level. Responsible developer and / or co-author of 11 documents of sanitary legislation, including: "Sanitary rules for the oil industry", "Sanitary rules for the phosphorus industry" / USSR (1986); "Sanitary rules for the oil industry" / Republic of Kazakhstan (1994); "Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the oil industry" / Kazakhstan, 2004; "Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the design of production facilities" / Kazakhstan, 2004; SanPiN RK "Maximum permissible concentrations (hereinafter MPC) of harmful substances in the air of the working area" , etc.,

Scientific supervisor of the Technical task "development of sanitary and epidemiological rules and regulations for the period April-December 2004", Subprogram 001 "Apparatus of the Central Authority", Program 001 "Ensuring the activities of the Authorized body in the field of health", according to which 50 normative documents were prepared.

One of the developers of the project "Law on sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population" of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2002) and the project " State program of health reform and development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2005-2010”.

For a long period (1978-1992) he was a member of the section "occupational Hygiene in leading industries" of the Union Problem Commission "Scientific bases of occupational hygiene and occupational pathology" , and also a member of the Union Problem Commission “Vakhta”.

For many years, he was a member of the doctoral dissertation councils on the specialties "Hygiene", "Public health and health care" and "Ecology" in the Kazakh research Institute of regional pathology, the Kazakh State medical University, the Institute of nutrition, the Kazakh higher school of public health, the Kazakh national University named after al-Farabi.

For 15 years-chief freelance specialist of the state sanitary and epidemiological supervision Committee of the Ministry of health of the Republic of Kazakhstan: on projects of new construction, reconstruction and new technologies; on occupational health. 
   From 2017 to 2018, the Department was headed by candidate of medical Sciences, excellent health- ZHANNA ROMANOVA. Zhanna Romanova is a member of the working group on "Harmonization of sanitary-epidemiological and hygienic requirements" from the Republic of Kazakhstan under the Advisory Committee on technical regulation, application of sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary measures under the Eurasian Economic Commission. Owns laboratory methods of determination of microbiological indicators of food products, Toxicological methods of research on laboratory animals (parameters of acute and subacute toxicity), determination of toxicity of chemical substances by alternative methods (on gametes of cattle). As an expert, she carried out activities on examination of registration dossiers for the purpose of state registration of controlled products within the Customs Union.

Participated in the training of specialists of the territorial centers of sanepidexpertiza and Departments of the state sanzhpidnadzor on the implementation of Toxicological methods of research of products (goods).

He has considerable practical experience in the organization of the sanitary and epidemiological service of the Republic, as well as in the territorial division of the Committee for consumer protection.
   Currently the Department is headed by PhD in the specialty "public health" MAMYRBEKOVA SALTANAT APBASOVA.

The Department was created to provide training for bachelors, masters and PhD doctors in the specialty "Public health".

Since 2018, the Department has created a scientific circle "Magazine club".

The goal of the Magazine club is to Develop and improve students ' practical skills based on evidence and critical evaluation of scientific literature data. Regular participation in the Magazine club also affects the structure of knowledge within the individual development plan of students.
