Scientific «online-breakfast» across the oceans

On October 8, 2020, PhD students Nurumov Bakhtiyar, Gulnur Berkenova and student of Journalism faculty Madina Serik took part in an «online breakfast» organized by Professor of Journalism in the School of Journalism at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile, Claudia Mellado, dedicated to the presentation of the book «Beyond Journalistic Norms: Role Performance and News in Comparative Perspective».

The online discussion brought together over one hundred scientists from all over the world. These are not just listeners, they are close colleagues-scientists with whom Mellado connect numerous scientific projects.One of them «Journalism Students across the Globe: Professionalization, Identity and Challenges in a Changing Environment» (2014-2018) was attended Professor of the Faculty of Journalism Ibrayeva Galiya Zhunusovna. Professor Claudia Mellado thanked everyone for the implementation of the conceived project and tireless work.

The book «Beyond Journalistic Norms: Role Performance and News in Comparative Perspective» consists of 3 parts, which are called «Professional Roles and Journalistic Performance», «Manifestation of Journalistic Role Performance in the News», «Explaining Journalistic Role Performance».The book contains materials of scientists from 18 countries of the world: Europe, Asia, North and Latin America about journalistic culture, about the problems that journalists face when doing their work.In study given a mapping professional roles of a journalist in news content. The research is based on hundreds of surveys and in-depth interviews with journalists. There is no doubt that this book will make a huge contribution to the development of practical journalism in the world and the humanities in general. 

Young scientists of the Faculty of Journalism were inspired by participation in such a high scientific meeting, agreed with the distinguished professor Claudia Mellado about an interview for students of the Faculty of Journalism of KazNU named after al-Farabi. The hope was also expressed that the doctoral students of the Faculty of Journalism of Al-Farabi KazNU from Kazakhstan will now be included in future country research projects.
