On May 16, 2014 at the Department of Oriental Studies of KazNU named after Al-Farabi in the framework of implementation of breakthrough projects of the University the opening ceremony of the Museum of the East was held. Event was organized by the Department of Sinology. A special guests have attended the "Museum of the East", such as like the Deputy Consul General of China in Almaty Mr. Dean Shanlin, the main project sponsor Chairman of "Mangistaumunaigas" Mr. Sun Sinyun, General Consul of the Republic of Turkey in Almaty Suphi Atan, General Consul of the Republic of India in Almaty Naveen Kapoor - Attache for Cultural Affairs of Egypt in Kazakhstan, Director of the Egyptian Cultural Center Dr. Ashraf Darwish, Director of the Cultural Foundation of the Turkic peoples Dagduran Ahmed, Chairman of the Central Asian Historical and Diplomatic Society Narysov SN and others.

This event may be called historic as an analogue of such a museum in Kazakhstan does not exist. Museum of the East - is, first of all, a collection of artifacts, objects, documents relating to the history, culture and traditions of the peoples of the East.

The exhibits which are presented in this museum have been collected with the efforts of ATS, employers and graduates of the Department of Oriental Studies. The role of the museum in the preparation of specialists in Oriental Studies cannot be overestimated, the potential of the Museum can be effectively used as an educational resource in the educational process.
