Presentation of the book "Syr-Aral ethnographies"

On January 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the presentation of the book by ethnographer Tattigul Kartayeva "Syr-Aral Ethnographies" (Qazaq kitaby publishing house). The book was published under the program of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Increasing competition in the field of culture and art, preservation, study and popularization of Kazakhstan's cultural heritage, as well as improving the effectiveness of archival work".
The presentation of the book was attended by scientists from the Chokan Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, from the Alkey Margulan Institute of Archaeology, from the Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures under the auspices of UNESCO, such as Nursan Alimbay, Serik Azhigali, Akhmet Toktabay, Nagashybek Kapalbek. There were writers, poets, representatives from the Union of Writers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, such as Bakyt Bedelkhan, Yerzhan Alashtugan, Bagdat Mubarak, Kanagat Abilkhayyr, cultural figures Estai Daubayev, Kadyrgali Kobentai, etc. The newspaper "Ana tili", "Kazak adebieti", "Syr boyy" published a review, annos about this book.
Also, during the presentation of the book "Syr-Aral ethnographies", a photo exhibition was organized with regional features and local specifics of the traditional knowledge of the Kazakh people related to the development of the surrounding nature, the manufacture and installation of the traditional dwelling kiiz uy (yurt), the culture of decorating the dome of the yurt – shanyrak, as well as methods of water use, in particular, digging and the construction of wells, the walls of which were reinforced with stone, brick, as well as branches of trees and shrubs such as zhuzgun, heather, saxaul and turanga.
In the course of ethnographic research in the region, along with the existing types of wells of active use, some types of old-timers wells that are endangered and require immediate protection have been identified. Photographs showing such forms of economic activity as the construction of a cattle pen, the registration of animals by tagging camels, as well as housekeeping and observance of rituals are presented on the example of the life and everyday life of Kazakhs living in the territory of Kyzylkum and Aralsk.

Winter School of ethnologists

From January 16 to January 20, 2023, the Department of Archeology, Ethnology and Museology of the Faculty of History organized the Winter School of Ethnologists "Actual problems of ethnology: history and modernity". Famous ethnologists from Kazakhstan and France, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Kyrgyzstan gave lectures to the students at the Winter School.

International scientific and practical conference "Restoration and reconstruction of objects of historical and cultural heritage" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of K. Altynbekov

On December 2, 2022, the Department of archeology, Ethnology and museology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University together with the scientific restoration laboratory "island of Crimea" held an international scientific and practical conference on the topic "restoration and reconstruction of objects of historical and cultural heritage", dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the famous artist-restorer, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Altynbekov.
The plenary session of the conference was attended by well-known Kazakhstani statesmen, heads of universities, directors of research institutions, Writers, Museum Directors, as well as foreign scientists.
During the meeting of the section, topical issues of modern reconstruction and restoration were discussed, including:
* Theory and practice of preservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites;
* Current problems of the restoration industry;
* Restoration and reconstruction in Archaeological Science;
* Issues of conservation and restoration of organic materials;
* Actual issues of restoration of museum objects;
* Theory and practice of scientific reconstruction;
* Problems of restoration of architectural monuments;
* Interdisciplinary approaches to recovery;
* Subject scientific and historical reconstruction in the museum's exposition.
Within the framework of the conference, an exhibition based on the results of the work of the Crimean Altynbekov restoration laboratory was opened at the Al-Farabi kaznu museum, which will last until December. Also, the grand opening of the lobby named after K. Altynbekov took place at the Faculty of history.
