Chair history



In 1971, on the initiative U.A. Dzholdasbekov  the rector of C.M.Kirov Kazakh State University, for the first time in Kazakhstan, the chair of Archeology and Ethnology was opened at the Faculty of History of the University in Kazakhstan, which today is recognized in the Republic and abroad as a center for training of highly qualified personnel - archaeologists, ethnologists, and museologists. To manage the department was invited a well-known Kazakhstan archaeologist - A.M. Orazbaev.

The opening of this specialized chair was promoted by the intensive development of the archaeological and ethnographic science of Kazakhstan, especially manifested in the second half of the XX century and urgently required the training of qualified specialists - archaeologists and ethnographers. At the same time, the department organized an office of archeology and ethnography, which later became the basis of archaeological and ethnographic museums at the historical faculty of the university. The heads of the department were the famous Kazakh scientists from 1971 to 1973. - Candidate of Historical Sciences, A.M. Orazbayev, from 1973 to 1987. - Doctor of History, Professor U.Kh. Shalekenov, from 1988 to 2011. Doctor of historical sciences, professor А.Т. Toleubaev.from 2011 to 2016 - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor А.B. Kalysh, Since 2016 the present time - Candidate of Historical Sciences, Assistant professor G.K. Omarov.

In different years the lectures were conducted by outstanding Kazakh scientists - academician A.Kh. Margulan, Ph.D. HA. Alpysbaev, Ph.D., S.M. Akhinzhanov, prof. HA. Argynbaev, prof. K.A. Akishev, corresponding member. NAS RK O.I. Ismagulov, prof. K.M. Baypakov, Doctor of History S.E. Agigali, Cand.Sc. Z.S. Samashev, as well as professors from Russia, M.P. Gryaznov, prof. S.S. Chernikov, Yu.A. Zadneprovsky, prof. Claudia Chang (USA).
