Chair history

In 1991, the Department of Oriental Philology was divided into two separate departments: the Department of Arabic Philology and the Department of Oriental Philology. Later, the Department of Oriental Philology was reorganized into the Department of Turkic-Iranian Philology and Chinese Philology. In 1991, the Department of Chinese Philology was founded. Later in 2003, the Department of the Far East was divided into two departments, one of which was named as Department of Chinese Studies, and it was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor N.A. Aldabek.

The research work of the department is aimed at studying language and literature, history, culture, economics, politics of China and also the relations between two countries.

The students of the department have the opportunity to increase their scientific potential by participating in various scientific conferences at various levels. In addition , students can participate in conferences of orientalists and language Olmpyics in Central Asia and the CIS countries.

Experienced professors, candidates of sciences, associate professors, senior teachers work at the Department of Chinese Studies. Teachers of the department annually receive language and scientific training in order to improve their qualifications.

Department of Chinese Studies cooperates with many universities in China, such as Peking University, Beijing Language University, People's University of China, Huadong Normal University, Fudan University, Lanzhou University, Xi'an Petroleum University, Xinjiang Normal University, Nanchang University.

On the basis of the Confucius Institute, the department has close ties with the State Chancellery of China ("Hanban"). "Hanban" provides the department with textbooks, teaching aids, scientific and educational materials in Chinese language, and annually sends specialists of Chinese language to the department. In addition, teachers, students, undergraduates and doctoral students of the department can receive scientific and language training at the universities in China.

Currently, the department employs 20 professors, associate professors, doctors of sciences, candidates of sciences and associate professors. More than 130 undergraduate students, 11 undergraduates and 8 doctoral students study at the department in the specialties "Oriental Studies", "Foreign Philology", "Translation Studies". Since 2016, the department began to accept students in the specialty "Regional Studies". The material and technical base of the educational process consists of computer classes, language rooms, audio and video equipment (projectors, tape recorders).

Since the creation of the department, the teaching staff of the department have published dozens of textbooks, collections of articles, monographs, dictionaries and hundreds of scientific articles. The teachers of the department are also regular participants in the annual republican and international scientific-theoretical and methodological conferences.

A student circle "Silk Road" was found in the department. This club attracts students not only to science, but also to social life by organizing various interesting events.

Graduates of the Department of Chinese Studies are currently successfully working in various universities, research centers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, various government agencies, and foreign companies.

Achievements of the faculty of the department in the field of research and education were highly appreciated by the state and the university and awarded with a number of awards, in particular:

- Mukhametkhanuly Nabizhan - rewarded with a badge "For merits in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan", No. 406 / 09/27/2019;

- Aldabek Nurzhamal - awarded with a silver medal named after "Al-Farabi", 2021

- Orazakynkyzy Farida - awarded with the badge "For Merit in the Development of KazNU", 100210 / 23.12.2019;

- Orazakynkyzy Farida - awarded the title of "Best University Teacher" by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2019;

- Bisenbaeva Asel - was awarded the 1st degree diploma of the competition "Best Young Scientist - 2020" held by the National Innovation Research Center "Civilization of Knowledge" of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

- Isaeva Zhansaya - was awarded the badge "For Merit in the Development of KazNU", No. 0422 / 10.02.2021;

- Turgenbay Ainur - was awarded the badge "For merits in the development of KazNU", No. 0404 / 01.21.2021.
