TURKSOY DEPARTMENT

The Turkish language and Literature course has been taught at the Department of Persian and Turkish Philology since 1991. From this period, the foundation for the study of the Turkish language and literature was laid. In the early years, teachers from the Republic of Turkey taught at the department: Hassan Iylmazturk, Abant Izzet, graduates of Erciyes University, Ramazan Cakir, a graduate of Baysal University, Bilal Chullukoglu, a graduate of Selcuk University.

In 1991, the first 8 students were admitted to the 1st year (5-year training), in 1992 9 students (4-year training). On April 11, 1996, the Department of Turkish Philology began to function independently. In the same year, the first graduation of students of this department of 17 people took place.

Due to the fact that since 2000, the department has taught not only the Turkish language and literature, but also the history, culture, religion, politics and economics of Turkey, the Department of Turkish Philology has been renamed the Department of Turkology. In connection with the transformation of the faculty in 2005, the department receives a new name Department of Turkology and History of the East. In 2011, the specialty "Turkology" appeared at the Department of Turkology and History of the countries of the East and the department receives the name Department of Turkology and History of the Countries of the East. Since 2012, the department has been called the Department of Turkology and Indology. Since 2015, the Department of Turkology and Indology has been renamed the Department of Turksoy. Since 2022, the department has been headed by PhD Doctor Gabdullin Kenzhebek Tulepbergenovich.

The Department has close ties with the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY, the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey and the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in Almaty, the Agency of the Turkish Administration for Cooperation and Development (TIKA), the Public Foundation "Almaty Foundation of Turkic Culture", JSC DB Zirat Bank, Istanbul University, Ankara University, Osmangazi University, Pamukkale University, Ege, Hacettepe University and other leading universities.
