April 24, 2019 2 professors of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University met with young scientists, doctoral students and undergraduates of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Professor Devit Lee, Director of the Department of Chinese Language and Bilingualism at the Faculty of Humanities of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, delivered a lecture on the topic “Overview of the Language Policy of China since the 1950s” During the lecture, Professor Li touched upon such issues as the language situation and changes in language policy in China after the founding of the PRC. Also, the lecturer did not forget to mention the language situation in the framework of the initiative “One Belt - One Way”, which has been actively implemented for the last 5 years. At the end of the lecture, students asked their questions and had an active discussion on issues of interest to them.   The second lecturer, Professor of the Chinese Language and Bilingualism Department, Ms. Cheng Shui Duen, delivered a lecture on the topic “The Current State of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in Hong Kong”. She introduced students, undergraduates and doctoral students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies with various educational programs of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and encouraged our students to take part in them. At the end of the lectures, professors at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University met with the stuff of the Chinese studies department and discussed future cooperation.
