In the Steps of Auezov!

 Our great public figures such as M.O.Auezov, K.Zh.Zhumaliev, A.Kh.Margulan, B.Kenzhebaev, K.Akhanov, M.Balakaev, Z.Kabdolov laid down the foundations of the outstanding history of our faculty, its rich and interesting traditions. A prominent artist of the contemporary period of time M.Auezov had been teaching at the faculty for more than thirty years. The prospects of the faculty go back to these factors.

In September, 1937, the faculty of humanities was founded at the university and a year later there was established the faculty of philology consisting of three departments: the Kazakh language and literature, the Russian language and literature and the English language. The number of students was 120.

In 1938 the specialty ‘The Kazakh language and literature’ was opened at the faculty.

The Faculty of Philology is one of the oldest faculties of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Tuition at the faculty is carried out in accordance with the multi-leveled system: a) bachelor studies and b) master studies.

The faculty trains bachelors in the following areas:

a) Kazakh language and literature;

b) Russian language and literature;

c) Philology: Kazakh language and literature, Russian language and literature;

d) Translation Studies (Kazakh and Russian departments);

e) Foreign Philology (Kazakh and Russian departments).  

   After successful completion of the course graduates are awarded the academic degree of the bachelor of philology.

Tuition in the main specialties of the faculty is carried out in two languages: Kazakh and Russian with one of the foreign languages training. At present more than 1000 students study at the day-time department of the philology faculty.
