The 22nd annual «Speech contest in Japanese» was held on September 5. This event was organized by he Kazakhstan Association of Japanese Language Teachers, Japanese Embassy in Kazakhstan, Japan Foundation and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In comparison to previous years, this time the contestants have competed online. Despite conducting in unusual format, the event was organized on a very high level and the Ambassador of Japan in Kazakhstan Tatsuhiko Kasai and respectful diplomat Batyrkhan Kurmanseit have participated in it. Among awardees there is our student of the 4th year of the Far East Department, Fariza Junis.

On April 27, the Bishkek University of Humanities held the 23rd Central Asian Speech Contest in Japanese. The competition was attended by 15 contestants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

As a result of the competition, the 4th year student of the Department of the Far East Bazilbek Madi took the 5th place and received an award from the Alumni Association of the Japanese branch of the BHU.

The tradition of the annual international competition of oratory on the basis of the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi was founded in 2011. At the beginning of April 2018-2019 school year, the 9th oratory competition was held with the participation of the Universities of Hanyang and Namseul, Republic of Korea.

The winners are:
1st - Bakumbaykyzy Aruzhan, KazNU. Al-Farabi 2 course, specialty "Oriental Studies" (the theme of the report "K-Pop")
2nd - Ankel Toktarbekova, ENU. L.N. Gumilyov, 2nd year (the theme of the report is “Two-sided K-Pop”
3rd Alimzhanova Ulzhan, KazNU. Al-Farabi 2 course, specialty "Translation Studies" (the theme of the report "The secret of Korean phraseological units")
4th - Serikkan Aruzhan, Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi 2 course, specialty "Translation" (the theme of the report "Man and the environment")
Also: Special Prize of the jury of Kayyrliyev Gulimbibi, KazNU. Al-Farabi 2 course, specialty "Translation Studies" (the theme of the report "Korean Proverbs").

Professor Yun Tae Hoon handed certificates to the winners, among which 1 place - training in the magistracy of Hanyang University and diploma. Holders of 2, 3 and 4 places - a certificate for training for a period of 1 year at the University of Namsoul, as well as certificates and gifts. The 11th Republic Student Olympiad on the specialty “Oriental Studies” took place at the Oriental Studies faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Olympiad consist of two sections. The first task was to accomplish a test on Japanese language and history and then to write an essay in Japanese language. By the results of the first round, 9 students out of 18 made it to the second round, making a presentation about the issues of the day of studied country.

According to the results of these sections, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Far East Department was awarded by three prize-places. First place was won by the 4th course student Skatov Alisher, second place 3th course student Galym Asem and 2nd Junis Fariza, 2nd course student Bitis Gulnur and 4th year student Saidalieva Dilinur and Ybysheva Dina took 3rd place. The Olympiad winners were given special diplomas and gifts.

The XI Republican student Olympiad of knowledge on Oriental Studies, which is the annual event was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU named after al-Farabi. The number of participants in the section of Korean studies this year was 27 students from KazNU named after al-Farabi, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov.

At the end of two rounds, participants were awarded prizes. The 4th year student of Department of the Far East(Korean Studies) of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the KazNU named after Al-Farabi - Kairgaliyeva Aizhan took the 1st place，2nd places were taken by senior students of Department of the Far East(Korean Studies) of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU named after Al-Farabi - Saylaukenova Aigerim and Serik Meruert, 3rd places were shared between 2nd year students from ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov - Toktarbekov Anel and KazNU named after al-Farabi - Otegen Gauhar and Turysmaganbetov Kundyz. All winners of the Olympiad were awarded special diplomas and cash prizes from sponsors.

Testing for knowledge of the Korean language was conducted by foreign teachers and representatives of the Almaty Korean Center of Education at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Kazakhstan. They also gave an assessment of the written essay on the topic “My student life in KazNU”.

As always, the best won and they were all awarded cash prizes. Grand Prix was won by a 4th year student Rosa Ulan.

KazNU traditionally hosted the Japanese Speech Contest in Kazakhstan.

The competition, organized by the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan, the Association of Japanese Teachers of Kazakhstan, and Al-Farabi KazNU, is a testament to the close diplomatic relations between Japan and Kazakhstan. The Japanese Association in Kazakhstan, Japanese Association of Entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan-Japanese Center for Human Development, and the Japan Foundation sponsored this Competition. Tsukuba University, «Terakoya» Public Association, «Sony Electronics» Company, and the Kazakhstan's New & Rare Resources Limited Liability Partnership have greatly supported the event.

On February 20, the annual karaoke contest in Japanese was held at the Japan Human Resource Development Center. Students studying Japanese, as well as just lovers of singing Japanese songs attended this competition. A total of 14 solo and duet numbers were presented. Rahmankulov Arthur, a first-year student at the KazNU of the Far East Department, performed the song “Nando demo” by the group “Dreams come true”. He performed well, impressing the audience with his beautiful vocal and good pronunciation. Arthur was awarded an honorary diploma and memorable prizes. First-year students of the Japanese Studies Department came to support their classmate.

Despite the fact that it was his first experience of participation in this competition, Arthur did a great job. He really liked it, and next year he is going to please the audience with a new song.

The Department of the Far East presented scholarship programs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, which were received by undergraduates, graduates and doctoral students of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

In addition, cooperation with the International Japanese Foundation, the Heywa Nakajima Foundation, and the Mitsubisi Corporation in Kazakhstan made it possible to receive a number of other scholarships for students studying at the Japanese Department of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The total amount of scholarships was more than 83 million tenge. Compared with last year, the Department of the Far East has increased the number of fellows, and the total amount has doubled.

On November 23-24, a large-scale international competition in the Korean language took place at the Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages ​​named after Ablaikhan. It was attended by 40 students (15 universities from 10 cities of four countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Russia).

The event was attended by students of the of Korean Studies, the Department of the Far East, Faculty of Oriental Studies, KazNU named after al-Farabi, and of them Ulan Roza, 4-year student took the 3rd place. The winner was awarded a certificate and a prize in cash.

The student-winner of the Department of the Far East region once again showed a high level of knowledge in the field of Korean study, thereby defending the honor and name of the National University. This achievement served as a good example for all Korean studies participants.

Department of the Far East of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in the framework of academic mobility, cooperates with many highly respected universities of Japan. Among them: Saitama University, Osaka University, Waseda University, Hokkaido University, Tokyo University of Foreign Languages, Tsukuba University. Also there is close cooperation with the international funds of the Japan Foundation and the Nippon Foundation, which contributes the professional development of the faculty members. Annually, in the framework of cooperation with these universities, students and teachers of KazNU have the opportunity to go for an internship at the universities listed above.

 The Department of the Far East a year ago initiated negotiations with the participation of the First Vice-Rector M. Burkitbayev, where an agreement was reached on cooperation with the University of Bunkyou Gakuin (Japan). One of the results was the reception of 22 students of the Faculty of Humanities at the Winter School in KazNU named after al-Farabi. The students became participants of the joint educational program "Regional Studies. Politics, Economics and Culture of Central Asia "with the receipt of certificates.
For Japanese students, this was the first visit to Kazakhstan, which left an indelible impression about the campus of the university, about the city landscape, about meetings with Kazakhstani students.

10 students took part in the annual republican subject olympiad on the specialty "Foreign Languages" at the Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages ​​named after Abylai Khan in the section of the Japanese language on behalf of the Far East Department, Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU named after al-Farabi.According to the results of two rounds to the students of the Japanese department of the Far East department, the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU. As a result our students from the Faculty of Oriental studies won medal positions: on specialty “Foreign Philology” Aidana Zhumagalieva took the 2nd place, on “Translation studies” Roza Ulan took the 2nd place, Ainur Duisenbek – 3rd place, in category “Foreign language” AliyaTurarbek came 2nd.

The winners were awarded by certificates and prizes in cash. As usually, students of the Department of the Far East demonstrated high level of knowledge in the field of Korean studies, thereby they defended the honor and name of the National University. This achievement was served as a good example for all Korean scholars-participants.

On January 29th, 2018 in rectorate KazNU named after al-Farabi, students graduate of Department of the Far East were awarded with Korea Foundation Fellowship for Graduate Studies. Korea Foundation is a longtime partner of our university. For 20 years, the Department and the faculty have been actively cooperating with the Foundation in such areas as inviting foreign professors, support in scientific conferences, scientific training for the teaching staff According to the agreement, signed in August 2017-18 between KazNU and the Korean Foundation, three master's students received scholarships in the amount of 4 000 USD and two PhD students - 7000 USD for further research in the field of Korean Studies. Of these, two undergraduates will be trained in Korea under a double degree program. Thus, the money will be spent on the implementation of this program. Congratulations to our scholarship students and wish them to become highly qualified, confident in their knowledge and their future.

Students of the Department of the Far East once again became the best of the best in the quiz about Korea "Golden bell". In the period from 2 to 4 November 2017, the General Consulate of the Republic of Korea organized, within the framework of the International Festival, a large quiz on the knowledge of Korea in the Korean Education Center in Almaty, in which more than 100 students of Kazakhstan took part. KazNU named by al-Farabi presented a team of 10 students, including the first-year students. And again on the pedestal of the winners were students of KazNU, they took three prize places out of five. The main characters of the uneasy contest on history, economics, literature, culture and language of Korea: Turarbek Aliya            (4-course) took 1st place, Zhanabay Gulnaz (3-course) took 3rd place and Kairgalieva Aizhan (3-course) took 4th place. The winners were awarded with certificates and cash prizes. Students of the Department of the Far East once again showed high knowledge of the Korean language, history and culture, defending the honor of al-Farabi Smart University.

The ceremony of awarding Korean Fund scholarships to undergraduates and doctoral students of the Department of Korean Studies of the Department of the Far East was held.
With the congratulatory speech the deputy dean on scientific and innovative activities and international relations of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Kudaibergenova Renata spoke.
   For the good knowledge in the field of Korean studies and for further research, the delegated professor of the Korean Foundation, Lee Beng Joe, awarded graduate students and a doctoral student of the Department of the Far East with scholarships totaling 7 million 260 thousand tenge.
  It should be noted that the Korean Fund is a partner of KazNU. For 20 years the department and faculty have been actively cooperating with the Foundation in such areas as: invitation of foreign professors, support in holding scientific conferences, organization of scientific internships and refresher courses for the teaching staff.

On 1st December, 2016 at the general meeting of the Association of South Korean small and medium business of Almaty held a ceremony of scholarships to the best students of the Korean studies department of the Far East KazNU. The purpose of this event is to raise students' interest in Korean studies, development and strengthening of further cooperation in the field of education and business between the KazNU and the South Korean employers in Almaty. Such awarding scholarships will be the first step to improving relations between the Korean studies department of the Far East KazNU and South Korean employers in Almaty. As well as also this meeting will be held annually and will serve as a tradition in the future. From point of view teaching staff, after graduation our students will have more opportunities for successful employment. Congratulations to our scholarship students and wish them to achieve even greater success in their studies!

On the rectorate of KazNU. Al-Farabi, the regular ceremony of awarding scholarships to the bank of Shinhan Bank Kazakhstan JSC was held. The purpose of this award is to increase students' interest in Korean studies and strengthen cooperation in the field of education and science between KazNU and Shinhan Bank Kazakhstan. Scholarships were awarded to student activists with a high GPA.
      At this time, the scholarship was handed over in another way, in the bank of JSC Shinhan Bank Kazakhstan, an account was opened in the name of the scholarship holders so that the scholars could get acquainted with the Bank's services and in future be its clients.      At the International competition in South Korea on the 12th essay contest and oratory Taldybaev Zhanadil showed the best result among foreign students. In the International competition participated representatives from Malaysia, Bulgaria, Russia, USA, Ukraine, Indonesia, Mongolia, China, Japan, Monaco and Rwanda.

The contest was organized by the Hannam University supported by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. Holding such events is an incentive for increasing interest among foreign students to study Korean language, promotes the establishment of close scientific and educational ties with world universities and extends the forms of cooperation.

    Students of Korean branch of the Department of Far East on a regular basis participate in International competitions and prove their competitiveness. Every year in the universities of Korea, about 30 graduate and undergraduate students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Department of Far East undertaking internship and study.  Not only successfully completing individual curriculum, students adequately represent Kazakhstan in all scientific, educational and cultural events held in Seoul with the participation of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Association of Students in Korea.

KBS has selected five distinguished overseas Koreans as the recipients of the 18th KBS Overseas Compatriots Award.Among the five figures selected are Professor German Kim of the Al-Farabi University in Kazakhstan.KBS said it included German Kim among the award recipients to recognize his significant contribution to promoting Korean studies in Kazakhstan and carrying out research on the history of emigration of ethnic Koreans to Kazakhstan.
The ceremony for giving out the award will be held on March 5 of next year. Recipients will receive 30 million won in prize money. KBS will also produce documentaries on the recipients.
KBS has been giving out the award since 1992 to ethnic Koreans living overseas who have done an exemplary job of promoting the image, people and culture of Korea.

From 7th till the 9th of November in Almaty was the 14th International Conference of the International Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers. The student of the 3rd course of our faculty Dautov Bauyrzhan has participated as a translator of Korean delegation, in particular he was a translator of president of Korean Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers, also translator of minister of emergency control ministry of Kazakhstan Mr. Bozhko V.K. For the work he was awarded with the medal of Korean Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers.
