Due to the modifications in the structure of Al-Farabi KazNU from September 2011 year on the faculty of Geography new department is established. It is the department of geography land management and cadastre. It is based on specialties of physical geography, geomorphology, economical, political and social geography. Reorganosation of the department is caused by the opening of specialties of land management and cadastre in 2010.

This department is the biggest team of geographers in the system of higher education of Kazakhstan. Its faculty consists of 38 employees, with 10 Science doctors, 2 professors of KazNU, 12 candidates of science (PHD), associated professors, 14 tutors, 4 spesialists.

On the basis of specialties of departments team next schools ware established:

In the field of physical and genecology it is geoecological zoning of Kazakhstan; complex estimate of the resistance of natural environment to the human influence; design of environment saving activities and its mapping with using GIS technologies.

In the field of social, economical and political geography it is economic-geographical estimate of nature recourses of Kazakhstan, geography of population and demography, problems of territorial organization of society and management of the nature potential; geopolitical and geoeconomical problems of Kazakhstan.

Specialities of land management and cadastre are new science directions. They are dedicated for designing system of government activities for rational use of natural recourses, development of agricultural level, land saving, land use and real estate development.

Departments graduates work in different universities, institutes, project companies, national companies, private companies, such as Geography institute of MES Kazakhstan, Kazakhstans institute of strategic research, Agency of land resource managements of Kazakhstan and others.
