General Information
The department was established in 1990 as a one of the departments of Faculty of Law in KazNU by initiative of Professor M.A. Sarsembayev, first owner of Doctor in Law degree in Kazakhstan with specialization "International Law". Since 1995 department operates within the Faculty of International Relations, as a foundation for "International Law" specialization. There are 33 members in the Department, including 3 Doctors in Law, 15 Candidates in Law, and 4 PhDs and 8 masters of law. Most of the lecturers have educational experience in foreign institutions and scientific organizations in the area of own scientific interests, almost each of them is the leading specialist in Kazakhstan. Department members developed a number of special authorial courses, tutorials on various spheres of international law.
The chair carries out strategic partnership with such organizations, as UN Representation in RK, the OSCE Center in RK, the Kazakhstan Association of International law, International Associations of Law students (ILSA), the International Committee of the Red Cross, the American society of international law, Institute of a name of Max Planck of Comparative public and international law (Heidelberg, Germany), Institute of a name of Max Planck of the International private law (Heidelberg, Germany), Kansas City Missouri University (USA), University of Havre (France), University of Cadiz (Spain), Gumbaldt's University (Berlin, Germany), Harbin Technological university (People's Republic of China), Tszilinsky university (People's Republic of China), Dundee University (Scotland), University of Tsukuby (Japan), etc.
Students constantly get high scores in national and international competitions, scientific conferences, and game court tournaments. The motto of the Department, "Equal of the firsts, the first among equals", represents the Department’s aim to improve achievements and maintain image of the leader of Kazakhstan's education.
