General Information

The Chair of International Law of al-Farabi Kazakh National University`s Faculty of International Relations is the leading center on preparation of lawyers specializing in international law in the Republic Kazakhstan and Central Asia. 
Preparation of experts is conducted under the three-stage program of continuous educayion including a bachelor degree, a magistracy and Ph.D. doctoral studies .
Education on a bachelor degree lasts for 4 years, in this time students study the disciplines of common university block (economic theory, History of Kazakhstan, philosophy, sociology, political science, computer science, etc.), common legal disciplines (theory of state and law, constitutional, administrative, criminal, civil law etc.) and basic disciplines of international law (public international law, private international law, diplomatic and consular law, law of international organizations, law of armed conflicts, international law of human rights, etc.) . The special attention is given to branches of international and internal law regulating relations with participation of the Kazakhstan and foreign persons, customs and others mandatory bodies, in foreign trade activities sphere. Within the limits of a bachelor degree students learn one foreign language by choice – western (English, French, German or Spanish) or east (Arabian, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Korean), and also base studying of the second language during 1 semester is provided. While studying the students pass training and working internship. Graduates receive degree of the bachelor of international law with knowledge of a foreign language.
Graduates of a bachelor degree can get the higher scientific and pedagogical education, having continued training on a two-year magistracy where under the direction of leading tutors the special disciplines of  public and private international law are profoundly studied. 
Since 2005 the Chair of International Law began preparation of experts in the program of doctoral studies Ph. D., on termination of which graduates receive degree of the doctor of philosophy in international law. Doctoral students have possibility to make foreign scientific trips; one of heads of the thesis for a doctor's degree appoints the invited foreign professor (from Russia, France, Great Britain, etc.).
