Research work of students is one of most effective remedies of improvement of quality of preparation and education of experts with the higher education, capable creatively to apply in practical activities of achievement of scientific and technical innovations. Attraction to research work of students allows to use also their creative potential for the decision of the actual problems standing in practice and before high school.

Achievement of this purpose was carried out by the decision of following problems:

§ assistance to formation and development of scientific potential of Institute, to creation of a professional basis of scientific divisions in it;

§ the organisation of scientific researches on the most actual problems of the modern scientific world;

§ creation of conditions for mastering by students of the general methodology and a private technique of scientific researches, to development of skills of the scientific analysis, a critical estimation of the general-theoretical and special literature, possession of receptions of reception and accumulation of an empirical material and its ordering;

§ contribution to development of abilities to be guided in the modern scientific and technical information, effectively to use it for the decision of problems of theoretical and applied character;

§ development of creative thinking, expansion of a scientific outlook and formation of scientific outlook of the future expert;

§ inculcation of steady skills of independent research work;

§ education of requirements and ability constantly to improve the knowledge;

§ popularisation and distribution of positive experience of scientific creativity of students through an exit in external scientific actions of various level.

The traditional university student's scientific conference spent in April, gives the chance to students to approve the first scientific experience. Our students - active participants and frequently winners of the interuniversity and international language Olympic Games spent by embassies of the countries of the East, on purpose to reveal owners of grants on foreign language training.

Currently, the research work of students of the faculty is an important part of the educational process, as well as activities in this direction helps to improve the quality of future graduates. In the research work of students participate in scientific circles faculty participation in university, national and international conferences and competitions, set various round tables and debates, take part in overseas educational programs.

There are 7 scientific circles at the faculty: “Zhas galym”, ''Nihongo salon'', “Sin Side”, “Arab alemi”, “Zhas kytaytanushy”, “Zhas turkolog”, “Gulstan”. The purpose of scientific research circles - to raise interest of students to the knowledge of science through lectures and meetings with senior representatives of embassies, consulates, cultural centers, business and banking institutions of foreign states, scientists at research institutes of the National Academy of Kazakhstan, the various intellectual games, debates, roundtables and other events. At the meetings of scientific groups students discuss current issues and problems of the East countries. As a result of these meetings, the works of scientific value, are published in journals included in the list of the Controling Committee in the field of education and science. In addition, students with tutors take part in competitions and research projects of the Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan and the winners are student projects RK.

To enhance the interests of students of the faculty to the research work carried out various activities, including round tables, meetings and conferences.
Each year in April, the Department of Science of Kazakh National University named al-Farabi in all faculties held an annual international conference for students and young scientists.

As part of this conference, Faculty of Oriental Studies has been working its conference in three fields: 

1) The history, politics and economy of the East;

2) Language and Literature of the East;

3) Culture and Religion of the East.

Students, who won first place in these fields, receive certificates and cash prizes. In addition, the best scientific work of students and young scientists are published in the “Bulletin of the KazNU: A series of Oriental Studies”, and may also participate in other student research projects.

Faculty students may also participate in the annual competition for the scholarships the Fund of the First President of RK, which takes place in October.
