Department of Darwinism and Genetics was founded in 1948. In 1987, with the opening of molecular biology specialty, department was renamed to the Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology. Nowadays, the department comprises two research laboratories. The lecturing staff consists of 2 professors, 5 associate professors (2 directors of SRI), 5 senior lecturers, and quarter rate lecturers (2 professors, 1 c.b.s., 2 Ph.D., 2 directors of SRI, 3 heads of laboratories). Among them Prof. K.K. Shulembaeva, Z.G. Aytasheva, Associate Prof. A.K. Bisenbaev, B.A. Zhumabayeva, A.M. Kalimagambetov, N.Zh. Omirbekova, Zh.Zh. Chunetova, senior lecturers N.A. Altybaeva, N.K. Bolegenova, A.I. Zhussupova, Zh.K. Zhunysbaeva, S.B. Dauletbaeva and others. Since opening of the department more than 560 professionals have graduated. More than 70 people successfully completed postgraduate studies. Over 90 graduates obtained doctoral and candidate degrees in biology, and also Ph.D - from 2008. Many graduates are prominent scholars and principal investigators, directors and heads of divions of SRI, experimental and breeding stations, lecturers in colleges and universities. Our graduates earned high reputation for their work among foreign experts (in the UK, Egypt, Israel, USA, France, Germany and other countries).
