Life of Faculty

On January 15, 1934 in Alma-Ata, the grand opening of the Kazakh State University took place, which turned into a celebration of the national culture of the Republic. At first the young University consisted of two departments: Biology and Physics and Mathematics, and in September the same year Chemistry Department was opened. This structure of the university was apparently connected with both the urgent needs in the specialists of these profiles and the availability of though few, but skilled personnel of the country, capable of providing educational process in the new starting university.

Associate Professor M. Markovich (a physicist), who participated actively in the organizational and financial affairs of the university, got in contact with governing bodies in Moscow was appointed the first dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics

The faculty is constantly evolving. In recent years there has been a steady growth in student number. The number of research programs is increasing, new courses in the most pressing areas of training specialists have been established. The material base of the faculty is being expanded. Students receive a fundamental education and are engaged in research in the chosen fields of modern mathematics, mechanics and informatics.

The faculty progresses today have become possible thanks to the enthusiasm and creativity of some generations of scientists who worked and are working today at the department. Veteran of the faculty G.N. Bagautdinov deserve special words of respect who scrupulously restored many of the facts of the faculty history.

The team of Mechanics and Mathematics Department has great plans for improving of the learning process and further developing the efficiency of scientific research in accordance with the requirements of the modern time. The faculty has enough potential to successfully implement the plans. We believe that Kazakhstan's first Mechanics and Mathematics Department will hold high its banner and will always be the first in the hearts of the students, the alumni, the faculty staff and collaborators.
