Division research is part of the Department of Science and Innovation (Department) of the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi and reports directly to the Vice President for Research and Director of the Department.

The main goal of the department is to organize and coordinate scientific and technical work of the University in accordance with the approved plans, university president, programs and other institutional regulations to implement the instructions of the Head of State to improve the management of science, its transformation into a key element of the innovation system in the country. 

The main objectives of the Department of the NID are:

- Coordinating the activities of departments to implement the research, scientific and methodical work;

- Search, classification, processing and transfer of scientific and educational information departments of the University of promising areas of science, technology and education;
- Acquisition of information resources, formation of databases and data banks STI, how effective information services;

- Promotion and dissemination of scientific and technological achievements of the University, the organization of and participation in international and national conferences, symposia, exhibitions and meetings on research;

- Providing information on international programs for the expansion of scientific and educational links through the activities of international organizations and foundations to support research and education, the involvement of scientists and engineers in academic exchanges, training and scientific visits, provision of guidance for the development of joint research projects and programs.

- Organization and coordination of research students at the university.

The Scientific Research Activity Division carries out the coordination of scientific and technological activity of the university and the realization of a uniform scientific technological policy, the organisation of scientific activity of the university, the maintenance of an effective interaction and the coordination of the activity of structural divisions of the university in the realization of research activity; the monitoring, analysis and development of suggestions concerning the development of research and professional R&D works at the university, and also the realization of target and international programs in the field of science, the formation and realization of scientific technological and innovative programs and projects.
