The School employs 36 young scientists (15 YS - 2005) and 40 of the 101 PPP, Faculty of Geography, which is 35%. Over the past 5 years the number of YS at the Department increased from 15% to 35%. Young scientists from the Faculty of the reporting period was held 43 different events, i.e. competitions, seminars, meetings, debates, round tables, etc. The faculty works in priority areas of science:
Study of physical geography, human and technological factors forming the environment in Kazakhstan;
Development study about agrolandscapes in Kazakhstan (the development of adaptive-landscape systems of agriculture);
Patterns of development of ecological and geomorphic processes on the territory of Kazakhstan and their mapping;
Mapping of the adverse ecological and geomorphological processes intermontane basins of South-Eastern Kazakhstan;
Problems of spatial organization of the territory and the resettlement of the population of Kazakhstan, economic and geographical regionalization and spatial design of the RK, geodemographic problems of the RK;
Economic - geographical problems of structural economic reforms in Kazakhstan, the socio-economic and environmental problems of the regions of Kazakhstan;
Geopolitical situation in Central Asia and the world;
Problems of using GIS technology in the economic and geographic, social and geographical research;
Problems of nature in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
Hydrology of mountain areas of Kazakhstan, hydrological problems of landlocked basins and transboundary problems hydroecological Republic of Kazakhstan (resource assessment and forecasting of natural waters in Kazakhstan in terms of anthropogenic and climate-driven changes);
Study the patterns of formation and dynamics of the activity of dangerous meteorological phenomena and processes on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
Study theoretical and practical problems of territorial organization of tourism of the Republic of Kazakhstan
As part of basic scientific research in 2009-2011 at the Faculty of Geography performed two themes "Develop the scientific basis of meteorological and climatic factors in evaluating the available potential of renewable sources of energy and moisture cloud systems for the sustainable development of natural and man-made systems of Kazakhstan in the context of climate change , "Development of geographical foundations for sustainable tourism development based on an assessment of tourism and recreation potential of Kazakhstan."
