Faculty of Geography,Kazakh National university named by al-Farabi was openned in 1948.Then he had the title of Geology and Geography and was represented by two departments - a geological and geographical. Due with the closing of the geological department in 1960 was renamed into Department of Geography.

The faculty consists of 5 departments:

• Department of Geography and Cadastre  
• Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics
• Department of Hydrology and meterologii
• Department of Energy Environmental
• Department of tourism

 Faculty of Geography provides educational services licensed by in accordance with the JI and meet the needs of consumers. At the faculty by a three-level training:undergraduate, graduate and doctoral PhD.

     Since from 2010-2011 school year at the Department experts are preparing for the pilot program, where in the learning process the number of elective subjects brought60% of the total number of subjects listened to. In addition to the new academic yearat the Faculty opened new specialty 5V090300 - Land (4 years) and 5V090700 -Inventory (4 years). At the Department of Economic and Social Geographydeveloped training programs and curriculum workers in these fields.

 Amount of students at the Faculty of Geography in the 2009-2010 academic year (in year-end) is a bachelor in 1134 people., 53 master's person. and doctoral Ph.D - 7 people., including 943 students are enrolled (83.2%) and 191 of the grant under the agreement (16.8%).
 The number of employees at the Faculty of PPPs - 99 people. Staff complement the Faculty of PPS is 81 teachers, among them doctors, professors - 12 candidates of sciences, senior lecturers - 42, Senior Lecturer - 19; teachers - 8 assistants - 1. Part-time 16 people. Of them, two doctors, professors - 1, and teachers - 10 people. The share of ostepenennyh faculty members is 74%.
