Orientalist (sinologist) - an expert who speaks at least one oriental language (the language of the countries surveyed, China) and one or more of the West, having verbal and written translation, a profound knowledge of traditional culture of the countries studied in all its components (religion, doctrine, law, literature, science, economics), oriented to the realities of the contemporary situation in China and Eastern countries.

"Regional studies"

International cooperation. Department of Chinese Studies of the KazNU named after Al-Farabi has a wide network of contacts with their foreign counterparts in China. We have close ties with the Embassy of China in Kazakhstan, Consulate General of China in Almaty, the Confucius Institute at KazNU, the Bank of China in RK and etc. All the professors were Sinologists linguistic and academic training at universities in Beijing, Lanzhou , Hainan, Tianjin, Anhui and many others, more than half of students studying Chinese language, have an opportunity for language training at universities in China. In 2010 about 80 students have been and still training in more than 10 universities in China.

At the initiative of the Department of International Affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Department of Chinese Studies involving preparatory work on signing an agreement with Lanzhou University of twodiploms education.
