Dear friends, we are glad to greet you at our faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University!

  The Faculty of Oriental Studies is a center for training highly qualified specialists with knowledge of Oriental languages in Kazakhstan, which are in demand in various spheres of economy and foreign policy in the country and abroad. The study of Oriental languages (in particular, Arabic) at the university dates back to the 70s of the twentieth century. Today's Faculty of Oriental Studies is a recognized center of Kazakhstan orientalism, where highly qualified teaching staff work, an interesting and creative educational process is carried out, scientific research is carried out.  We have 4 departments where 8 Oriental languages are taught: Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Korean, Turkish, Japanese, Hindi and Urdu, as well as 2 Western languages – English and French. The faculty has research centers of Arabic studies, Turkology and Korean studies, resource and information centers of Indology, Sinology, Iranian studies, Japanese studies.  

    The teaching staff of the faculty is about 120 people, including 10 doctors and professors, 20 candidates of sciences and associate professors, 28 PhD-doctors. Major scientists and leading specialists from the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visiting professors, as well as employers also take part in the training of students. During its existence, the faculty has trained a considerable number of specialists in various branches of Oriental studies, who work in research and analytical institutions, in the system of higher and secondary education of our republic, as well as in universities and research centers of the near and far abroad, in the field of diplomatic service.

    From the very beginning of its activity, the faculty has been successfully developing international relations and cooperating with many scientific and educational institutions and universities of foreign countries such as Arab countries, China, Turkey, Korea, Japan, Iran. Jointly participates in international educational and research programs and projects. Thanks to active international cooperation with leading research centers and universities of the Eastern countries, real opportunities for academic mobility of students are being created. Our students can study for one or even two semesters in foreign universities and as a result of successful completion of the training program receive a double diploma: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and a foreign partner university.
