Scientists from the Center of Physical Chemical Methods of Research and Analysis of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Aray Zhakupbekova, Dr. Nassiba Baimatova and Prof. Bulat Kenessov published the paper «A critical review of vacuum-assisted headspace solid-phase microextraction for environmental analysis».

In prestigious international scientific journal Trends in Environmental Analytical Chemistry, which has the impact factor of 4.462 and is included in the first quartile (Q1) of strongest journals in the field of analytical chemistry indexed in Web of Science database. Full text of the review is freely available for download until June 25, 2019 on the link: https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1Z1Wg7tSG5vfDe.

The review describes main achievements, problems and perspectives for the development and application of the method of vacuum-assisted headspace solid-phase microextraction (Vac-HSSPME) for environmental analysis. Compared to HSSPME, one of the most popular and perspective sample preparation technique, Vac-HSSPME provides lower detection limits of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds in samples of water and soil without significant complication of the procedure. The review considers theory of the technique, effects and optimization of main parameters of analysis. It has been shown that for the further development of Vac-HSSPME, it is important to automate it and use a computer modeling for optimization of analytical methods.

This review was prepared under the project «Development of analytical methods, materials and equipment for cost-efficient «green» environmental monitoring» and PhD study of Aray Zhakupbekova at the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Al-Farabi KazNU under the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
