Cooperation of two universities on international program

Recently, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies, Director of the Republic scientific-research center on world history, Honorarable Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan K.T. Zhumagulov returned from the scientific trip (Italy, Rome) under the State Program «History and Culture of the Great Steppe».

At the Department of History, Anthropology and Religion of La Sapienza Universita di Roma, Professor K.T. Zhumagulov and Professors Fabio Grassi and Gaetano Lettieri discussed practical training of masters and students on the International Double Degree Program, which for the first time operates between two universities of Kazakhstan and Italy since 2015 year. Also, participants of the meeting paid an attention to the issues of students ’academic mobility plan and the participation of teachers and students at international conferences, mutual internships.

Professor K.T. Zhumagulov during meetings and speeches at the University of La-Sapienza di Roma focused on the key problems of the early and medieval history of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. He also answered questions from professors, researchers and students on the modern history of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Professor K.T. Zhumagulov paid great attention to the work with rare sources, including with secret archival materials at the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana and Archivio Segreto Vaticana. He identified new source data on the history of Desht-i - Kypchak, Altyn Orda, integration of the West and the East on the Great Silk Road. This is primarily a correspondence of the Popes, the Mongol rulers, the khans of the Golden Horde, the Ilkhans in the territory of Persia. These rare Latin manuscripts can shed a bright light on the history of Kazakhstan, the Turkic world and Central Asia.

On May 23, during his stay in Rome, a professor of KazNU was invited to the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Italy. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Italian Republic Sergey Nurtaev expressed great satisfaction with the fruitful interaction between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the La Sapienza University, wishing further success in the development of education and science of the two countries.

It is gratifying to note that the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Italian Republic expressed great attitude to the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Research Center on World History Studies Zhumagulov Kalkaman Tursunovich for his assistance and personal contribution to the establishment and development of cooperation between the two leading universities - Al-Farabi KazNU and La Sapienza Universita di Roma.

Rector of al-Farabi KazNU , academician G.M. Mutanov presented the letter of thanks from Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador S. Nurtaev to Professor K.T. Zhumagulov at the meeting of the University’s Academic Council.
