Project - 100 Interesting Facts about Almaty

Al-Farabi KazNU launched a unique project «100 Interesting Facts about Almaty», initiated by the Club of Ethnographers of the Alliance of Universities «U 38» as part of the «Ruhani Zhangiru» program.

Mendigul Nogaybaeva, Head of the Club of Ethnographers and Local Historians of the Alliance «U 38», Dean of the Faculty of History, Archeology and Ethnology of Al-Farabi KazNU, noted that the main goal of this initiative is to involve young people in important social practice in studying native land. «Along with scientific historians - specialists in archeology, ethnography and ethnography, several thousand Almaty schoolchildren and teachers are already involved in our project», - she noted.   «For youth, this is an opportunity to go «beyond the boundaries of textbooks» to real life and empirically, through historical, ethnographic and ethnographic research to «touch» the history and culture of the city. Such a format will enrich the creative experience of youth and will only contribute to formation of interest and careful attitude to a historical heritage of their native land».

«Almaty is a unique city with a thousand-year history. Here are concentrated a large number of unique monuments of architecture and culture, ancient and interesting sights. The city is a center of tourism for foreign and domestic travelers, and such a project will open Almaty from new sides», - said Associate Professor of the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism, a tour guide O.G. Luterovich.

Aliya Isayeva, Associate Professor of the Kazakh State Women's Pedagogical University, in her report spoke about the work of a group of student volunteers in conducting an ethnographic questionnaire and their participation in the development of a map of archaeological and historical monuments in Almaty.

Dinmuhamed Aliaskarov, a pupil of the 11th form of M.Bazarbayev Gymnasium № 138, shared new information about the history of street names, buildings and famous residents of Almaty. Such studies, as the student noted, revive love, respect, patriotism and confidence in the bright future.

The project participants are planning to regularly acquaint public with research progress. Young local historians will share their impressions and findings via social networks in an interactive mode, as well as on pages of periodicals. Based on the project results, a collection of «100 Interesting Facts about Almaty» will be published and a map of archaeological and historical monuments of the Southern Capital and surrounding districts is being developed.
