Rector Galym Mutanov met with Vice-President of the University of Lorraine Karl Tombre at Al-Farabi KazNU.

In his welcoming speech, Rector of KazNU Galym Mutanov thanked delegation for their interest in the University and noted that the KazNU has long-standing fruitful relationship with French universities. The University of Lorraine is a strategic partner of KazNU, whose cooperation is expanding and taking new forms. "This year, KazNU is going to receive a supercomputer under the grant given by the government of the People's Republic of China, which will become the core of the IT-Technopark of the University Alliance of the Silk Road. I propose to open an educational research laboratory on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU, where research could be carried out in parallel with training of students, timed to the opening for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of cooperation between Kazakhstan and France. Such center would become a shared base of universities, where the French companies would open up their laboratories for scientific research", – said the Rector.

Vice-President of University of Lorraine Karl Tombre thanked for the warm welcome and supported the initiative for further fruitful cooperation. Thus, he focused on joint activities in the centre "Geo-energy" and suggested starting to develop joint projects in the field of IT technology, healthcare and jurisprudence. During the meeting, it was specifically noted that Kazakhstan and France are interested in the development of renewable energy sources and the cooperation of the two Universities could become a platform for research in this field. He also suggested using the capabilities of the supercomputer in the ongoing and one of the most relevant projects of the University of Lorraine "Virtual Hospital", within which students of the Medical Faculty have the opportunity to operate on virtual models, thereby excluding the possibility of conducting the first operations on live humans or animals.

"We are interested in the project “Virtual Hospital” and its implementation on the basis of KazNU. In Kazakhstan, the state program "Digital Kazakhstan" is being implemented and all projects related to modeling, digitalization, smart cities and virtual systems will be approved at the University" said Galym Mutanov, rector of KazNU.

The parties discussed the areas of cooperation in the fields of renewable energy sources, radioactive waste storage, healthcare development, computer technologies and geoengineering, as well as the issues of organizing summer schools and academic exchange of faculty and students.
