«Migrants: An Invisible force in Central Asia»

UN Assistance Center of IRD, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and IOM UN Migration Agency, Sub-regional coordination office for Central Asia organized the open lecture and screening of the documentary film: «Migrants: An Invisible force in Central Asia» .

The lecture was started by greeting remarks of the Dean of International Relations Department, Professor Sagyngali Aydarbayev who noted the relevance and impotance of the current migration process and related issues including various trends.  

The open lecture was performed by the IOM and key speakers were represented by Tatiana Hadjiemmanuel, Head of IOM Almaty Office, Deputy Coordinator for Central Asia, Damira Umetbaeva, National Programme Officer and Elyor Nematov, Programme Officer and Photographer. 

The documentary film was showcase more than forty photographs with their accompanying texts, as submitted by Central Asian Artists/Photographers and University Students, as well as stories shared by two Central Asian writers who participated in the project.

Young Scholars, PhD, MA and BA students from Department of International Relations, International Law, World Economy, Department of Geography and Political Science of al-Farabi Kazakh National University attended the lecture. The audience was represented by students from Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan who are currently BA and MA students of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, International Relations Department. 

The lecture covered many important migration issues, modern migration situation and current trends in the Central Asian region. It initiated interesting questions and involved audience into heated discussion.
