Republican scientific-practical conference "Source and archival studies: new paradigms of research", devoted to 70-anniversary of the famous scientist, doctor of historical Sciences, Professor Kambar Atabaev was held at al-Farabi KazNU.

Kambar Atabaev was the first head of the Department of source studies and historiography in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which was opened in 1998 at the historical faculty of the al-Farabi Kazakh national University. During the heading of Kambar Atabaev, the faculty was opened the specialty "Archival science, scientific discipline of documentation and documentary maintenance" and "librarianship". He is the founder of the Republican contest "history through sources" among the students, and on his initiative was created by the national center of archeology and source studies.
