Professional training of journalists has begun in 1934. Journalism Faculty of al-Farabi Kazakh National University is the leading educational facility, which activity was recognized not only in the whole CIS, but throughout world scientific society. For more than 75 years of its existence Faculty has trained 16 thousands high qualified specialists for various mass-media. Most of graduates have reached the peak of their professional career. They are intellectual elite of the country.
Faculty’s graduates are working basically at all printed media, on television and radio, at publishing houses and foreign bureaus, at chief positions in the Government; they are heading editorial boards of numerous republican and regional journals and newspapers. There are such prominent persons among them as K. Sultanov, M. Kul-Muhammed, E. Bekhozhin, S. Abdrahmanov, Zh. Kenzhalin et al.
During complicated period of the emerging Journalism Faculty has managed to save and expand its precious potential – the strongest staff of professors and teachers, unique educational basis. There are highly qualified teachers at Journalism Faculty, notorious scientists and practicing journalists. Among them there are 9 Doctors and more than 30 Candidates of Sciences. Scientific fundament was established by founders of Kazakh Theory of Journalism: Kh. Bekhozhin, T. Amandosov, T. Kozhakeev, M. Barmankulov, M. Dmitrovskiy, Yu. Krikunov et al.
