Department history

The Department of Clinical Disciplines was created in 2018 as part of the Higher School of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University by order № 368 (dated July 5, 2018) as a department for the preparation of bachelors in the specialties "General Medicine" and "Dentistry". For 5 years, students have been trained in clinical (basic and specialized) medical disciplines - internal medicine, childhood diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, infectious diseases, phthisiology, neurology, psychiatry, pathology of organs and systems, clinical skills and procedures, as well as training of bachelor dentists. Since September 2022, by the decision of the Academic Council of the faculty, the department continued to implement only the Educational programs "General Medicine", "General Medicine Internship". Training is conducted in three languages: state, Russian and English.

 

The goal of the department is to organize and conduct:

  1. educational and methodical work;
  2. research work;
  3. educational work among students;
  4. the training of scientific and pedagogical staff and the improvement of their qualifications;
  5. medical consulting and clinical expert work.

 

The main tasks of the department:

  1. Theoretical and practical (clinical) training of highly qualified and competitive specialists with professional knowledge, skills and abilities in accordance with the state obligatory standards of higher vocational education in accordance with the state compulsory standards of higher professional education in the specialties "General Medicine", "Pediatrics", "Dentistry", "Pharmacy".
  2. Formation and implementation of scientific, scientific, technical and innovative programs and projects.
  3. Development and introduction of new methods into practical healthcare and technologies of prevention, diagnosis and treatment in practical public health.
  4. Attracting students, interns, undergraduates, PhD students to carry out research and innovation.
  5. Organization and control of teaching, research and educational work with students in the specialties of the department.
  6. International activities.

 

The teaching staff for the 2022-2023 academic year - the number of full-time employees reached 212 people, of which 16 doctors of medical sciences, PhD - 6, candidates of medical sciences - 20, masters of medical sciences - 16 teachers. The teachers of the department are experts in the development of competence-oriented educational programs, in assessment in medical education (AMEE, NBME), as well as in the field of accreditation.

 

The main clinical bases of the department are the SME on the REM “City Clinical Hospital No. 1”, the SPE on the REM "City Clinical Hospital No. 7”, as well as the SPE on the REM “City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital named after I.S. Zhekenova”, GKP on REM City Polyclinic No. 10, GKP on REM City Polyclinic No. 26. PSE on REM “Center for Primary Health Care of the Medeu District”, “A-CLINIC ALMATY”, “City Emergency Hospital”, SPE on REM “Central City Clinical Hospital”, City Rheumatology Center, SPE on REM “Karasai Central District Hospital”, SPE on REM “Talgar Central District Hospital”, and others.

 

Clinical work is an important part of the educational process, it includes: consultations, participation in consultations, supervision of patients, clinical reviews, rounds of patients, participation in clinical and expert work, joint medical conferences, commissions for the study of lethal outcomes (as an expert ), treatment and control commissions for the analysis of lethal cases (as an expert), reviewing case histories), etc.
