         Work in the Customs Office has always been and remains to be prestigious. Customs service prospects are growing due to Kazakhstan's membership in international economic unions. Kazakhstan's neighboring with such giants as China and Russia allows significantly developing commercial exchange and entering the world market. Geopolitical position of the country initially assumed its entry into the reborn “Silk Road” that united Southeast Asia and Europe. Through the Silk Road trade is constantly expanding and increasing, which seriously affects the economic development of the country and its role in international politics.

       Kazakhstan’s membership in the World Trade Organization has led to serious adjustments in many international trade procedures, including customs control and clearance procedures. All this significantly increases the role of the customs service of Kazakhstan.

        Customs officer today must have extensive knowledge in the field of economics, taxation, accounting, logistics, international and national law. In addition, he must know several languages (for example, English and Chinese), understand the animal and plant world (the export or import of banned animals and plants), be able to evaluate the works of art. Customs officer today is also a psychologist who can at a glance assess a person and see if he is as a smuggler or terrorist. But at the same time, Customs is the face of the state, it is primarily refers to the behavior of the Customs officer. A competent, calm, decent behavior is the key to adequate perception and evaluation of the whole country of an outside observer (guests, tourists), the number of which is increasing every year.

In addition, the Customs officer must have a huge block of knowledge. To possess knowledge and skills of registration and control work. To be able to carry out investigative actions, and also to understand a huge set of examinations (biological, chemical, physical, medical, etc.), to keep a keen sense of the pulse to the latest researches in the field of criminology. Today the Customs officer cannot work without knowledge of special information technology. Most of the Customs procedures, including registration, identification, monitoring, scanning, have been transferred to computer technology that are equipped in the borders of Kazakhstan.

         Modern Customs officer studies all his life. The basis of his career and decent work is the availability of special basic education.

         Today the whole world is aware of the need for special training of Customs officials. Customs today is primarily one of the areas of national security. Accordingly, training Customs officers is training civil servants safeguarding the national interest. It is Customs officers who identify today most of the smugglers of drugs, terrorists, illegal migrants, etc.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University are providing training specialists in the specialty “Customs Affairs” the past 15 years. During this time, we have developed strong and friendly relations with the Customs authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in the system of which our graduates find employment. The big interest in experts in the field of Customs show the commercial structure involved in the transport of goods across the state borders of the country, logistics companies, etc.

KazNU diploma is highly quoted in the national space, as evidenced by the first place among the universities of Kazakhstan in all specialties. KazNU specialty “Customs Affairs” for many years ranked the first place in the National ranking (IAAR). We have international accreditation (accreditation Agency FIBA), which significantly distinguishes our diplomas among the others. Currently, we are preparing to be accredited by the WCO (World Trade Organization), which will entail recognition of the KazNU diploma, specialty “Customs” around the world (in the countries participating in WCO).
