The educational program is aimed to is ensuring the conditions for a full, high quality professional education, professional competence in the field of geography. Formation of competitiveness of graduates will provide possibility of their fastest employment in the specialty. Master   training program will teach and participate in the field of environmental expeditions, to carry out projects of protected natural areas, monitoring of population, migration and ethno-cultural processes that ensure the ecological safety of the national economy and other spheres of human activity, to develop and implement standards for quality of life, study problems rational use of natural resources, to teach core subjects in schools, colleges and universities.

General with emphasis on solving practical issues of geography, solving environmental problems and to critically evaluate the source data, master of modern geographical techniques and methods; possession of knowledge of regularities of geosystems' formation and development, possession of geographical research methods during the determining of classification and division into districts of natural complexes and economical and geographical systems, ability to create systems of applied division into districts;




Developing geographic foundation for sustainable development of nature-science, the formation of the structure of the territorial organization of the territory and land management, feasibility study development of adaptive-landscape system of agriculture on the example of Kazakhstan, using GIS technologies to observe, assessment and evaluate the changes occurred after the human interaction to nature, consideration the specific problems of environmental economics, emerging at the level of the world economy as a whole, the level of the national economy (macro) level of the regional economy (mezzo-economic), the level of the local economy (micro);



Distinctive features

Master students may emphasize is basic knowledge and techniques of statistical-mathematical modeling of processes, forecasting and planning of work on solving environmental problems and to start working in the path of sustainable development, creation of adaptive-landscape system of agriculture which will help to optimal using land resource with less harm to the nature, planning regional economical development taking into consideration of regional aspects of country.

Education style



Learning & Teaching Approaches

The general learning style is task-based learning. There are some lecture courses, accompanied seminars and individual works. Most learning is in small groups (up to 12 persons) and at seminars under the guidance of the lecturer extensive using of discussions forms for considers general questions of disciplines; analyze and solve the problems. Individual works of masters preparation of an essay on a given topic and defense it for the develop autonomy and initiative of masters. In the final year about half time is dedicated to the final thesis, which is also presented and discussed with a discussion group of lecturers and peers.



Assessment methods

Seminars: oral (presentations, essays) and written; examinations: written for the basic hydrology knowledge.

- Demonstrate deep knowledge about the laws of development of nature and society, as well as knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the geographical forecast;

- Demonstrate deep modern knowledge about the regularities of the formation and development of geosystems, possess the methods of geographical research in determining the classification and zoning of natural complexes and economic-geographical systems, to create systems of applied regionalization;

- Possess methods of field (expeditionary, stationary) and cameral works, general scientific methods of research and creative use of them in conducting physical and economic geographic, geomorphological studies;
- Demonstrate and solve the most significant problems and achievements of modern geography; to know basic laws of market economy and management, tasks, principles and mechanisms of innovative development of the Kazakh economy;
- Critically assess the geopolitical and geo-economic situation of countries and their regions, conduct geographic studies of sectoral, regional, national and global problems, develop recommendations for their resolution;
- To assess the state and forecast the development of natural and economic and socio-economic territorial systems and complexes;
- To assess the impact on the environment, to identify and diagnose problems of nature protection and the system of interaction between society and nature, to solve environmental and geographic problems associated with sustainable development;
- To receive new reliable facts on the basis of expeditionary observations, scientific data analysis;
- Formulate problems, tasks and methods of scientific research in the field of general and sectoral geography, abstract scientific works in the field of general and sectoral geography, compile analytical reviews of accumulated information in world science and production activities;
- Summarize the results obtained in general and sectoral geography in the context of knowledge previously accumulated in science;
- Formulate conclusions and practical recommendations based on representative and original results of complex geographical, physical-geographical and economic-geographical studies;




- Understanding the impacts of natural resources on society and the environment as a whole, the availability of products on the use of geo-information in various fields of economic activities of the state;

- Understanding the purpose, methodology and techniques of professional activity geographer, possession of methods of studying the relationship of social and natural phenomena;

- The ability to apply appropriate mathematical and numerical methods for modeling of geographical processes;

- Conducting of the methods of compilation of geographical forecasts, determination of environmental pollution of the geographic calculations and analysis of the results.

- identify issues of nature protection and systems of interaction between society and nature.

- formation of spatial patterns of economic structures and territorial forms of organization of society on a local, regional, national and global levels;

- Analyze the new concepts and theories of social-economical geography and development;

- Analyze the situation of regional economic development around the world and compare and using it in the sample of Kazakhstan;

Physical Geography and Geomorphology track:

- Knowing the fundamental research of physical geography and geomorphology to know and predict some natural disasters and to give forecasting of economic development and land use;

- Define the modern impact of anthropogenic factor's assessment to the environment by using data and GIS technologies;

- provide a work of evironmental monitoring of the Republic of Kazakhstan and give an assessment the glacial mass balance system in the country;

- Mapping of natural and natural-anthropogenic geosystems;

Geoinformatics track:

- Knowing the basics steps of using GIS in scientific work;
