In May, 2009 by decision of the university Academic council the department of general and ethnic psychology was created on the basis of already functioning departments: general psychology and ethnic and pedagogical psychology.
According to the approved practice of university education, the department in its scientific and pedagogical, studying-methodical activity reduces together the psychological theory and practical application of psychological knowledge in modern world, in many respects promoting personal and professional growth of students, master students and PhD students.
The chair of the general and ethnic psychology carries out preparation of specialists-psychologists of a universal profile.
Graduates of psychological department can work as:
Teachers of psychology in educational institutions (at schools, gymnasiums, colleges, at universities, etc.);
Practical psychologists in health system, educations, family service;
Psychologists-consultants in state and public organizations;
Political psychologists, imagemakers;
HR managers in personnel services of the various organizations, employment services;
Psychologists in structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and KNS, correctional facilities and military divisions;
Psychologists in the psychological psychiatriclegal expertise, etc.
The Staffs’ authority and skills are recognized not only in Kazakhstan and Russia, but also recognized for the international professional psychological communities. Theirlectures include practical and deep theoretical knowledges. Now many lecturers of chair give their psychology disciplines in English language.
At the present time 30 teachers work in department, among them 8 doctors of sciences, professors; 14 candidates of sciences, senior lecturers; 3 PhD doctors. Preparation on three-stage model on a speciality of "Psychology" is conducted: bachelor degree, master degree, and PhD doctoral studies.
