The curators-advisors of the Department of Language and General Education Training of Foreigners held educational events with foreign students during the week from February 6 to February 11, 2023. The topic of the curatorial hours was the situation in Turkey after a series of earthquakes. The teachers discussed with the students the actual problems of natural emergencies. In particular, the curators reminded the listeners of the basic rules of behavior in case of their occurrence.

 Teachers of the Department of Language and General Education Training of foreigners actively conduct educational work with their students. Ғoreign students studying the Kazakh language, accompanied by curators and advisors, attended the play "The Smell of Wormwood" at the Kazakh State Academic Theater for Children and Youth named after Gabit Musrepov.

Curators-advisors of the Department of Language and General Education Training of foreigners regularly organize excursions for their students. During the winter days, the Kazakh language teacher Mussayeva Gulbagiza conducted an excursion with a visit to the Shymbulak ski base. Foreign students were delighted with the most famous sights of our city!

During the winter holidays, the trade union committee of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized the traditional 49th Spartakiad among teachers and other employees of the university. The sports team of the Faculty of Pre-University Education took the 6th place. At the same time, the faculty team took the 2nd prize in volleyball! Associate Professor of the Department of Language and General Education Training of Foreigners Aitbayeva Bakyt Manatovna was the captain of the women's volleyball team of the faculty. Congratulations!!!

On January 25, 2023, the local history history club for educational work "Sayakhat" of the Department of Language and General Education Training of foreigners conducted an excursion to the Museum of Olympic Sports Glory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Foreign students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the exhibits presented in the museum. Among them are cups, medals, photographs and other rarities of Kazakhstani athletes, won by them at the world championships, Europe, major international tournaments. The students' interest was also aroused by the historical building built at the end of the XIX century, in which the museum is located.

On December 27, 2022, an expanded Academic Council was held at the Faculty of Pre-university Education, at which Dean S.K.Suatai summed up the results of the autumn semester and announced the tasks facing the team in the coming year. During the meeting, the best teachers of the faculty were awarded with various badges of distinction. Among others, the teacher of the Department of Language and General Education Training of Foreigners, Candidate of Philological Sciences Mashinbaeva Gulnaz Abenovna was awarded a Letter of Thanks from the dean of the faculty. We sincerely congratulate you and wish you further victories!!!

At the end of the first semester, the Department of Language and General Education Training of Foreigners traditionally holds an Open Day, where foreign students demonstrate their talents, and also, summing up the six-month study of the Russian and Kazakh languages, show what results they have achieved. This year, students from China, Korea, Iran, Turkey, America, and Japan are studying at the department. They all became close and became good friends. All students studying at the department took part in a bright concert program prepared under the guidance of curators-advisors.

On November 25-26, 2022, at the Department of Language and General Educational Training of Foreigners was held an international scientific and practical seminar "Innovative technologies in teaching Kazakh as a foreign language and Russian as a foreign language: optimization of the educational process". On November 25, a meeting was held in an online format, in which, in addition to the teachers of the department, speakers from Japan, Iran, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan took part. During the discussion of the presented reports, linguists exchanged views on various problems of teaching Kazakh, Russian, Kyrgyz, Ukrainian, English, discussed topical methodological issues. On November 26, the seminar continued in the traditional format. Representatives of the Russian publishing house "Zlatoust", specializing in the production of textbooks on Russian as a foreign language, spoke to the audience, who presented new textbooks, Internet resources, and also presented their publications to the department. The moderator of the meeting was Doctor of Philology, Professor Shaimerdenova Nursultan Zhamalbekovna. The event was held at a high organizational level.

The heads of the successfully working at the Department of language and general education training of foreigners for a long period of time of the sports club "Health" together with the curators-advisors of groups studying the Kazakh language, held an open curatorial hour on the topic "Kazakh National Games". Foreign students were shown a video presentation, during which the audience learned about such sports as "Arkan tartpak", "Asyk atu", "Kyz kuu". Such events allow foreign citizens to get to know the culture and traditions of the Kazakh people better.
