History of department of chemistry of rare elements

From the date of the organization to 1981 Department had been headed by correspondent member of NAS RK, Honored worker of Science of Kazakhstan, honorary member of D.I. Mendeleev All-Union chemical society, DSc. Professor Olga Songina, who was a prominent scientist, who made a great contribution to the development of chemical science, education and training of teaching staff in Kazakhstan. In 1981-1995 department had been headed by O.A.Songina follower, DSc. Professor Vladimir Zakharov.

In 1995, Department of Chemistry of rare elements was merged with Department of Analytical chemistry in a single department with preparation of specialists in the relevant two profiles.

History of department of analytical chemistry

Department of Analytical chemistry opened in S.M.Kirov Kazakh state university in 1934. The organizer and first head was Mikhail Sayenko.

From 1939 to 1971, department had been headed by Mikhail Kozlovskiy. He was a well-known scientist, who built a Kazakh school of electrochemists and analysts, and entered the world scientific elite as a leader of the school of amalgam chemistry and metallurgy.
M.T. Kozlovskiy read one of the best, in Kazakhstan of that time, lecture courses in analytical chemistry. He laid the foundations of teaching methods and research work taking into account training specifics of future specialists.
With direct participation of M.T. Kozlovskiya whole generation of teachers of the department wasbrought up (O.A. Songina, A.I. Zebreva, E.F. Speranskaya, R.Z. Vagapova, Z.B.Rozhdestvenskaya,K.Z. Sagadiev, A.M. Kucherbaeva, V.P. Gladyshev, V.A. Zakharov, V.Y. Mertsalova, R.N. Matakova, B.K. Toybaev, L.M. Filippova, S.A. Levitskaya et al.). Until the end of his life, M.T. Kozlovskiy remained a scientific consultant of the department.

From 1971 to 1993, department was headed by a student of M.T. Kozlovskiy, talented scientist and a wise supervisor, prof. Alexandra Zebreva. As an excellent methodist, A.I. Zebreva gave a lot of effort and attention to improving the teaching methods of analytical chemistry, improve pedagogical skills of teachers. Particular attention was paid to the development of teaching aids.
For success in work A.I. Zebreva repeatedly awarded with diplomas of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the KazSSR, the badge "For excellent successes in work and achievements in the field of higher education of the USSR", Jubilee Medal for Valiant Labor in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin. In 1989 she was awarded the title of Honoured Scientist of Kazakhstan.

From 1993 to 2009, the Department had been headed by DSc, professor Mikhail Nauryzbaev. His works are widely represented in scientific periodicals, international symposia, congresses and conferences. Under the guidance of prof. M.K. Nauryzbaev more than 35 candidate and 4 doctoral dissertations weredefended. Scientific activity of M.K. Nauryzbaev received international recognition. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and honorary academician of NAS RK.

History of department of colloid chemistry

Department of Colloid chemistry was opened at the Kazakh State University in 1972 on the initiative of the dean of Faculty of Chemistry B.A. Beremzhanov with the active support of the rector of the University academician O.A. Dzholdasbekov. Since the organization, Department of Colloid chemistry more than 30 years had been headed by academician of the Academy of Natural sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, DSc. Professor, Mussabekov Kuanyshbek.

Scientific and pedagogical activity of K.B.Mussabekov is linked with the Department of Colloid chemistry he successfully led for a long period - from 1972 to 2009.During this period, he supervized 8 doctors, 40 candidates of sciences and more than 8 PhDs. Prof. K.B. Mussabekov now has about 1,000 scientific publications.
For significant contribution to the training of scientific personnel and original researches in the field of colloid chemistryK.B.Mussabekovwas elected as Academician of the National Academy of Natural Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
For achievements in scientific and pedagogical work professor Mussabekov K.B. was awarded "Winner of socialist competition" (1975), Honorary Diploma of Ministry of High education of KazSSR and the Kazakh republican committee of the union of workers of education, higher education and research institutions, as well as by the title of "Excellence in Education" (1998) and "Best teacher of the university" (2007, 2014).
For his contribution to the study of colloid-chemical properties of macromolecular surfactants in solution and at interfaces professor Mussabekov K.B. was elected as a member of the International Association of colloids and specialists in surface phenomena (IACIS), the European Society of colloids and surface phenomena (ECIS), an active member of the New York Academy of Sciences, and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry of England.

Prof. K.B. Mussabekov is the founder of colloid chemistry in Kazakhstan.

For outstanding achievements made in the development ofAl-Farabi Kazakh National University on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the university professor Mussabekov K.B. was awarded the "Grand Gold Medal of KazNU".

In 2001, department was merged with Department of catalysis and petrochemistry and was named as Department of Catalysis, colloid chemistry and petrochemistry.

In 2009-2010, department was headed by DSc, professor Tazhibaeva Sagdat.

Tazhibaeva S.M. awarded the State scientific grant for scientists and professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology of Kazakhstan (2007-2008) and the grant of "The best teacher of the university" (2008). Under the supervising of Tazhibaeva S.M. 5 candidate theses were defended.
According to the results of her research over 200 publications werepublished, including 10 teaching and teaching-methodological textbooks in Kazakh.

In 2010-2011, Department was merged with the Department of Macromolecular compounds, called the Department of Colloid chemistry and macromolecularcompoundschemistry, and headed by DSc, professor GrigoriyMun.

In 2011, department of analytical chemistry and chemistry of rare elements was merged with department of colloid chemistry and was named as "Department of analytical, colloid chemistry and technology of rare elements". Department was headed by prof. D.K. Kamysbaev.

Since 2014 Department of Analytical, colloid chemistry and technology of rare elements have being headed by candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor Khaidar Tassibekov
