ABOUT SCIENTIFIC INTERNSHIP

The modern world is developing very quickly and dynamically in all spheres of human activity, especially in the field of education. Globalization and universal integration cannot bypass one of the most powerful engines of society - the youth. Now young people have all the opportunities for personal development and for the exchange of information in an intercultural society. One of such opportunities was awarded to students of the 4th year of the specialty "Foreign Languages: Two Foreign Languages", the Faculty of Philology and World Languages, Al-Farabi University, headed by its curator-adviser Kuzembekova Zh.Zh., who spent 10 days of scientific internships at one of the oldest universities in the world - Istanbul University. In the period from 14.03. till 24.03.2019, students had internships in various departments of the university: they attended lectures by famous professors and supplemented their knowledge, read books in the legendary Istanbul library, participated in round tables and worked in the Kazakh-Turkish Center. It is also worth noting that during the stay of students at the university, a great holiday Nauryz was organized, which is common for all Turkic people. On this occasion, the students prepared a national dance “Kara Zhorga”, sang songs and played national instrument- dombra. Being in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, students not only trained, but also visited the main sightseeings of the city such as the Blue Mosque, Basilica cistern, Galata tower and Topkapi Palace. The 10 days of the internship were very useful and the students were issued certificates of completion on the last day of the internship.

INTERNSHIP IN THE FOGGY ALBION

From 17 to 30 June 2018, in the framework of the academic mobility program of the MES of the RK, an overseas internship took place in the specialty of Linguistics in St. Mary's University and Aitmatov Academy (London, England).

The internship in London turned out to be a very useful and productive event for our professional and academic activities. The internship program allowed to meet in the format of business meetings with academic representatives of St. Mary's University and Aitmatov Academy, visit the British Library, the British National Museum, Oxford University (Oxford) and learn what is important for linguists who are engaged in intercultural communication, the subtleties of English hospitality.

Since the KazNU has a high level of training of students at all academic levels, undergraduates were fairly easy to do an internship, because the bar for the preparation of undergraduates at the KazNU. Al-Farabi is very high.

All meetings, presentations, handouts and informal communication with teachers St. Mary's University was focused on the elimination of myths about England as a country quite extortionate and prim. The internship program was focused on the attractiveness of London life, on the desire of the host to enter into new academic and business relations, on the desire to exchange experiences between students and undergraduates in England and Kazakhstan. The British openly demonstrated interest in partnership and long-term cooperation.

A huge plus of the internship that gathered a team of like-minded people. For a long time, we exchanged experiences within the group, shared ideas, commented on the complex issues that we face in practice. During a visit to St. Mary's University and Aitmatov Academy we had fruitful excursions to world-class colleges, such as Oxford and Cambridge universities. For us, this was interesting and useful both in academic and in general educational terms.

What exactly you need to learn from the British, is the culture and traditions. In the hotel business, it is respect for customers and, of course, hospitality. In English hotels, we once again convinced that everything should be imbued with the spirit of hospitality. This is read on an intuitive level, when the entire hotel staff, from the manager to the maid and the cook in the kitchen, wants to make it as pleasant as possible for her guest. In our society, this is needed to strive. Of course, this is a mentality, these are traditions brought up by generations, but if we talk about practice, everything is simple.

England is a very multifaceted and ambiguous country. Libraries, temples and fortresses amaze with their ancient beauty. And all this is surprisingly harmoniously combined in one space with new architectural structures. The British, despite their restraint, are very welcoming and friendly. They respect themselves, others and, of course, tourists.

We would like to thank the leadership of the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi, Head of the Department of General Linguistics and European Languages Gulmira Bayanzhanovna Madiev, International Student Marketing and Recruiment Manager of St. Mary’s university Sian Rees-Jones, Director of Aitmatov Academy Abduvalieva Rakhima Musaevna for the opportunity, because this trip played a big role in the preparation of the master's thesis.
