Al-Farabi KazNU jointly with the Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures and A. Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics conducts a Round Table «Turkic Writing: From Runes to Latin» on February 6, 2019

The event will address such topical issues as: preservation of the Turkic cultural heritage of the Great Steppe; making recommendations on the Romanization of the alphabet; historical sources about the Turks; Turks in the system of interstate contacts of Eurasia; methodology of Turkic studies in the framework of the program «Ruhani Zhangiru», etc. Famous scientists, public figures and writers - O.Suleimenov, M.Auezov, E.Kazhybek, as well as leading Turkologists and linguists, will attend it.

The presentation of the book entitled «The First Turkological Congress of 1926 in Baku.Verbatim Report», which was republished at KazNU, will be held within the framework of the Round Table. The Agreement on the re-publishing of the forgotten rarity was reached during the visit of the delegation of Kazakhstani University to Azerbaijan in December 2018.

The publication presents a collection of transcripts of speeches by the participants of the historic Turkic Congress of 1926 in Baku, in which the Kazakhstani delegation led by A. Baitursynov took part as well. The proposals made by delegates to the Congress are still relevant today, especially on the eve of this year’s World Congress of Turkology in Astana.
