The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia

Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, CICA Secretariat, United Nations Office in Kazakhstan and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will organize an international scientific and practical conference on October 20, 2017, entitled "The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia: 25 years on the way to security and cooperation", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the organization.

The idea of creation the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was first proposed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, at the 47th session of the UN General Assembly on October 5, 1992. The implementation of this initiative occupies a special place in the system of foreign policy priorities of Kazakhstan.

Over the 25 years of its existence, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) has become an authoritative international forum on strengthening cooperation aimed at developing multilateral approaches to ensuring peace, security and stability in Asia.

The CICA member states are 26 countries with a population of more than half of the world: Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, India, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Qatar, China, the Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan. Observers: Belarus, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, USA, Ukraine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Japan, as well as international organizations: UN, OSCE, IOM, TurkPA, and League of Arab States. The current chairman of the CICA is the People's Republic of China (May 2014 - 2018).

Within the framework of the scientific and practical conference, issues of security and cooperation in Asia and the role of CICA as a unique international forum will be considered, and the importance of international institutions will be sought in the search for joint approaches by states to address pressing problems and responses to new challenges in the context of globalization.

Representatives of Diplomatic Corps and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of state structures, academic and expert community, young scientists, and mass media are invited to participate in the conference.

Time: 10.00-13.00.
