The international summer school "Kazakhstan and Central Asia on the Silk Road: green technologies", organized by KazNU as a Global Hub of the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) on sustainable development, has been opened on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU jointly with the Alliance of universities of the New Silk Road in the midst of the international exhibition EXPO-2017. Starting in June of this year at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the summer school continued its work in leading universities of Kazakhstan.

       This is the first time of conducting International summer school on such a large-scale magnitude in the history of Kazakhstan's higher education system. Over a hundred of students of the largest universities in Europe and Asia showed a great interest. Such topics as sustainable development problems, the policy of Kazakhstan in the field of development of green technologies and the role of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the development of cooperation between the Silk Road countries in the energy issues of the future are proposed for consideration. The best professors of al-Farabi KazNU, leading Kazakh and foreign experts, will hold lectures and discussions based on effective dialogues. In the framework of the summer school students will participate in the "Model UN – New Silk Road” conference, co-organized by MDP/Global Classroom – a joint program of KazNU and Columbia University.

         The culminating result of the summer school will become an international forum of the Silk Road "Future Life, Future Leaders", joined by another 50 foreign representatives from Britain, Turkey, Egypt and CIS countries. During open discussions, forum participants will exchange their ideas and projects in the field of green energy, intercultural dialogue, will discuss opportunities for collaboration and cooperation among young people of the region and the development of a sustainable society through social innovation.

Heads of foreign universities arrived in Almaty along with students. For the first time there will be a regular meeting of the Executive Committee of the Universities Alliance of Silk Road (UASR), which is a sign of big trust of foreign partners to al-Farabi KazNU. On the agenda, there are discussion of results of University activities in the framework of the New Silk Road revival and promising projects aimed at deepening cooperation in education, science and innovation. These include the creation of Center of Supercomputer and cloud computing al-Farabi KazNU international IT-Technopark of the University Alliance of the New Silk road, organization of joint online courses on the basis of the Kazakhstan platform, and others. The University Alliance event will conclude with a tour of foreign guests and participants of the summer school at the International exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana. By the way, we note that the Alliance of Universities of the New Silk Road was created in 2015 and comprises 128 universities from 31 countries.
